hmmm Cape May and Cape Cod? Seems like you've answered your own question.

People laughed at me when I came up with this little thing I started called a "dance music coalition".

I thought a country version of this was starting up back in 1996 after WYNY (103.5) changed format to become WKTU. Seriously, country fans need to do this if you really want this format back on the radio somewhere.

How about K Country 92.3 just drop the word rock and replace it with country. :D I doubt Emmis would want country. They dumped it in LA.

There's also Country stations in Cape Girardeau, and in the Cape Coral-Ft. Myers markets. On the other hand I've yet to hear of a Country station in Cape Town, South Africa. I'm guessing a Country station will arrive in NYC right around the time Cape Town gets one ;)

I love when people draw comparisons to country stations in some tiny markets and use those as hard and fast evidence of why country music should/will return to the airwaves in NYC.

Personally, I think it's absolutely not going to happen.

I like the ring of that - although just change it to TWO words - "Country 92"...

Country 92 wouldn't be good. As you got Country 92.5 in Hartford, CT

Not that a country station would be a good idea or actually happen in NYC, but why would the name of a station in Hartford, CT prevent anyone from using that name here in NYC? Is the "country" name trademarked for radio use?

We already have Hot 97 and Hot 93.7, Power 105.1 and the former Power 104.1, Star 99.1 and Star 99.9, so where's the problem?

The rumors are ESPN to go on 101.9 FM then put Country Music on 1050...bring back WHN 1050 Country!

Explain where these "rumors" of country going on 1050 are coming from exactly.

i heard the same rumors about a month ago - and they were promptly denied by those in "authority" - BUT...

usually the rule is when something is denied, look for it to happen..."Sports 102", anyone?? 8)

Andrea
(FOUR words - "Format of the Month"... 8))

Everyone's heard the rumors of 101.9 being LMAed to ESPN. I'd like to know where MusicRadioUSA came up with these "rumors" that country will be going on 1050. It reeks of wishful thinking to me.

I could see WFAN going on 92.3 before ESPN on 101.9 this as CBS has moved sports stations on AM to FM like in Detroit, Washington D.C.

There is NO CHANCE that 1050 will ever go Country....It has already been said that if 101.9 becomes ESPN then 1050 will become ESPN Deportes....The whole idea is to one get ESPN on a better signal and two to get ESPN Deportes in the #1 market.

The rumor i meant was ESPN to 101.9 freeing ESPN on 1050 so thought Country could go there no rumor...

Disney owns 1050, and it's not getting back in the music radio business. Period. The only formats it owns are Radio Disney and ESPN. So unless Disney sells or trades 1050, it will either be some form of ESPN Radio or Radio Disney.
