first classic sports Broadcast on 1070 the fan

Obviously the Colts Super Bowl game was a HUGE event for the Colts and the city, but on some level, it's amusing that Emmis chose to debut their new sports station with a replay of a broadcast that didn't originally air on one of their stations, it was originally on Q95. Maybe this could be another new tradition for them, they can replay this game broadcast when they change formats for these stations again in a couple years?

Think they'll do it again? I doubt it... I think WIBC has some lasting power that Radio Now didn't, and I think WFNI will be a good format for them as well... the sporting format is popular, and if you combine that with the strength of the various sports carriage that 1070 has (Pacers, Colts, IMS, etc...), I think you have a strong format there too.

The only thing I can see changing is if there is eventually a mandate to roll radio from analog to digital, much like the pending TV cut-over in '09... that might motivate shuffling some things around, but I doubt that would ever by mandated so I don't see it happening either.

UNLESS Emmis buys a 50k watt station from someone else and decides to move WIBC to that, I don't see much changing around Monument Circle for awhile!

BTW... seems weird to hear Garrison on a half-hour earlier now.

Biggest sports broadcast of all time ... from 1am to 6am?

Perhaps you missed the original broadcast. Kickoff was 6:27pm (Prime Time) on 2/4/07. The ratings nationally pulled in 93.2 million fans, and in Indy, had a 55.2 share of television market.

It's been replayed a zillion times, and the DVD can be purchased at you local department store.

Playing it from 1am to 6am to sign on your new 50,000 watt sports station, and forever have it listed as your FIRST program was a pretty good nostalgic choice, IMHO.

The Super Bowl game was re-broadcast on 1070 the week after the Colts had won the championship. They were playing cuts from the game in promos the next day. Q's Colts contract ended with the Super Bowl and started for WIBC the next day.
