FIRST FLIPS OF THE YEAR...

After careful evaluation, I have to predict it will be in the Infinity family. WOGL would be first, with their long history in the format, plus, the demise of that particular audiance, I would say they would be first. Second would be WYSP either to All Talk or All Music after Dave. If they decide to be all Talk, then I would have to give the format to WOGL, with that killer signal and clear dial position, they would do very well with an Active Rock format. All the other stations are safe this year for the time being, come next year, if we are all still alive, WPEN, Wired, the Q and JJZ will be unsafe. Just MHO....

Well, we already KNOW that WYSP is going all talk, so that'll obviously be 1st.

We also know that WTHK is likely going to flip when it moves into the Philly market.

However...

I'd say the first (unconfirmed) flip would be WSNI. Sunny's ratings are delporable for a full powered, full-market signal.

I don't think that 'MGK is too safe either though, they're not exactly setting the ratings world on fire.

What makes you think that Q102 and WJJZ are not safe?

Q102 is the only Hit Music station in Philly and is usually in the Top 10 ratings-wise. Thier only competition is in the suburbs (WSTW/WPST).

WJJZ is the only full time Smooth Jazz station in the market, there isn't even one in the suburbs. WJJZ has the Smooth Jazz market all to themselves.

WJJZ usually hovers around a 4 share in the ratings, which is really not bad! (WSNI is usually in the mid-upper 2s while WBEN is thrilled to be breaking over a 3 share!)

Think of it this way, however. WSNI costs about 2 pennies to operate. No live talent. All automated. Non-current music. And it serves its purpose to take away a handful of listeners from WBEB.

WJJZ and WIOQ, however, I would think have a higher overhead.

We've seen good-performing (but high-overhead) stations flipped before poor-performing (but cheap) stations in the past.

The moral? NO station is safe from a flip, save maybe for B-101 and KYW. Those two are in a league of their own.

I know people have read this a hundred times before...but they seem to just ignore it!

Same comment as above!

Uh-huh!

Looks like that's changing. Wired 96.5, is now sounding like L.A.'s only hit music station, 102.7 KIIS FM. Wired now has Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" as their most played song. Fallout Boy's "Sugar, we're Going Down" is still in its Top 10, Gorillaz "Feel Good Inc" is back in its Top 5, and Nickleback's "Photograph" is now Top 20. Wired still has in rotation Linkin Park's collaboration with Jay Z "Numb", which most of Rhythmics have stopped playing, but CHR/Pop radio is still airing. Green Day's "Wake Me Up When September Ends" is also stil receiving light airplay on Wired.

Idle Speculation.

Please stop. You don't know anything...this is idle speculation. This poster has no idea ..please place no creedence in this whatsoever.
Careful evaluation, indeed.

Maybe this flip will make use of the WPLY call letters Nassau owns?

Re: Idle Speculation.

Calm down, Relax, I just made a statement, nothing carved in stone, take a valium, sounds like you work for WOGL, maybe you are worried about your position, running errands, getting food for the staff or whatever. Remember, WOGL is not safe by any means, if the Heritage Giant in the big apple can be killed, do you think OGL cannot.

Flips? Please...put Sunny on WPEN and convert 104.5 to Rock. Wouldn't everyone be much happier?

Let WMMR sweat a little bit again. It'll be OK...they're used to good old-fashioned American capatalism competition.

The underserved Rock audience would be so much happier to have an alternative for when Pierre is telling us in full detail about the concert he attended over the weekend or how many times a day he has to take a s*$t or whatever he is talking about. Philly needs a modern rock station.

And we Manilow and Carpenters fans would be OK. We have heard our stuff on AM before. It won't kill us. Bring back AM Stereo!!!! Give me a reason to tune into AM again and drive under a bridge and lose the signal so that when I come out from under the bridge I can pick up "singing along" where I left off. It's almost fun actually. It tests my knowledge of how well I actually know the song that is playing.
