First good E-skip of the season! 5/25/14

I FINALLY got some good Es, for about 30 minutes tonight, 5/25. Two new, two relog, one unid.

2148 - 95.5 KLAQ El Paso, TX; hard rock song ("Rise" by Skillett") and ID "KLAQ", good signal at times . NEW #206 to Yakima, 100KW, 1269 miles. A good start to the season!
2150 - 96.3 KHEY El Paso, TX; no ID but a playlist match to "Good Directions" by Billy Currington, which I did hear over my semi local KRCW-Royal City. NEW #207, 88KW, 1269 miles.

Relogs
2200 - 88.7 KNAU Flagstaff, AZ; end of hour of 1 of "Hearts of Space", and mention of Northern Arizona. 100KW at 914 miles.
2212 - 95.5 KYOT Phoenix, AZ; "One Headlight" Wallflowers, into "Hold On Loosely" 38 Special, ID "95.5 the Mountain." 100KW at 1013 miles.

UNIDs
2205 - 97.3 UNID SSer. Man and woman talking about news, may have provided some ID information but will post the clip tomorrow on R-D with MediaFire.

I probably have asked this before, but what was your equipment? Just your G8, with its whip?

Question #2: how do you know when the E skip is hitting, or going to hit? Do you just tune around the dial during the day and see if there are any unusual signals, or are there online indicators you use?

I guess I'll add question #3: do you think there are better FM DX conditions east of the Cascades? Just curious, as there would be one less mountain range between your DX location and other areas.

First of all, a DXer IDed my 97.3! It is XHECS, Chihuahua, CHI. A NEW Mexican province on FM for me! It also breaks an almost 4-year RECORD of farthest FM station ever logged at 1469 miles!!! :) It was one of the strongest Es signals on FM last night!

I use the TVFM Skip Log (http://dxworld.com/tvfmlog.html). I am "Yakima CN96" on that logging board. When I start posting "red" for Es, and it does NOT say that it is from a remote receiver, like yesterday afternoon at the Global Tuners node in San Antonio, and it is e-skip locally, check your dial starting at 88.1 and go up through the open frequencies.

I do believe there are somewhat better conditions east of the Cascades. I have cleared one mountain range and the Rockies are a ways from here. AM is the same thing - I have heard many new CO, UT and Plains stations that I would have never heard in Monroe.

Good catches, crainbebo!

In DXing, I don't think there's anything as exciting as hearing the first E Skip of the season.
