First good E-skip of the season!!!!

No E skip here in Tampa today, unlike yesterday except I did notice something briefly while driving today late in the afternoon.

Sometimes I'll tune to frequencies on the car radio that have little or nothing on them and when I tuned to 94.5 which has a weak religious station on it, I heard another station come in for about 15 to 20 seconds and they were giving a commercial for something in Topeka.

But that was it. Nothing at all after that brief visit by that station.

That's interesting because it was around the same time yesterday that stations were coming in from Kansas and I got the ID from one in Topeka, the one I did my video of.

I'm in the greenville sc area and I picked up KLTY dalas, KDKS from somewhere in nebraska and I picked up a bunch of spanish stations from I think texis. It was a very good eskip afternoon.

There was tropo last night (the 11th) and early today (12 June) at least in extreme Eastern Hernando county. (near Webster and about 50 miles due west of Orlando)

At 88.9 WQCS out of Fort Pierce was coming in, other stations that I could i.d. from the east coast of Florida (from Brevard south to Palm Beach county were WKGR 98.7 Gater Rock out of Wellington/Palm Beach county and Oldies 103.7 (WQOL) out of Vero Beach and a semi-regular here at 106.3 was the religious station out of Brevard (Titusville?), turned the antenna one way and received WJQB and another way, the religious station out of the Space coast was coming in.

WKGR, 98.7 was the strongest by far, like a local last night and apparently throughout the night (was still strong around 7am this morning), not only did it light up the stereo indicator on the Sangean PR-D5, but to capture the RDS readout the signal has to be even stronger and the RDS was scrolling WKGR, Gater Rock.

What happened to all the E skip all the sudden?

Looking at the map the past coupple of days and today, it's almost empty with the only E cloud spots being in the low frequencies.

It looks like it would anytime of year when we're well outside of E skip season.

This is starting to look just like last year's disappointing season where the only two catches I was able to document happened close together at the start of the season and then nothing the rest of the season.

Same thing this year. One in late May and one in early June and it looked like the activity was going to get better but instead it's dropped off like crazy.

I have not noted any skip this year.....I check the tv frequencies about twice a day.....have not heard or seen cuba or canada...maybe canada already switched to digital?

No, my friend....the stations in the major cities in Canada plan to switch in August or Sept. this year. Some stations in the smaller markets will take a little longer.

I'm getting Es, but it's been mainly ch 2. Good thing my WPBT went digital!

My Canadian 2's have only been CTV (Ontario), Global (Ontario) & Montreal in 2011.

Got a new log last night, 91.5 KFLQ Albuqerque, NM "Family Life Radio", while during a very flakey Es event to NM/AZ.
This is new log #165.
