First Hot Country Station?

Anyone know what the first hot country station was? I've heard claims it was Kix 104 in St Louis. Anyone know if that's true, and who was the first PD to pioneer the format? To me, its when the format went down the drain and I quit listening.

I don't recall hearing the term until about 1990. That's when country started going downhill. 1983 is when the urban cowboy era was still at its height and a lot of country songs were crossing over to pop radio and I didn't even care. It was around that time that the movement back to traditional began. Alabama and The Bellamy Brothers were exceptions to that rule, but before Garth came along, country was sounding pretty good. And even Garth started out good with "Friends in Low Places".

I was a kid back then, but I absolutely love the 80s and 90s country, and the early Garth is awesome. For me country went to crud in about 1996. I gravitate really heavily toward classic country, but there's a special place in my heart for late 80s and early 90s.
