First Impressions of Now 92.3

Z-100 may be the one owned by Clear Channel, but ironically enough it's the new Now 92.3 that sounds like a lot of other big market Clear Channel-owned CHRs.
You guys have mentioned Wired 96.5 in Philly, but Now actually sounds more like 102.7 KIIS-FM L.A., 103.5 Kiss FM Chicago, Channel 95-5 Detroit, or Channel 93-3 San Diego. Of course it also sounds a lot like CBS-owned Amp Radio 97.1 L.A., Hot 95.7 Houston, and 98.5 KLUC Las Vegas.
What Radio Now 92.3 is doing is tapping into New York City's CHR/Rhythm hole since Hot 97 has been an Urban since 1993-94, and KTU was always too Dancy or too Adult to be a true Rhythmic CHR. So you've got a new station in town that's trying to fill that Rhythmic hole while also going up directly against Z-100.
So far the station doesnt sound customized enough for New York, musically speaking, unlike L.A.'s Amp Radio. If you listen to Amp you'd notice how similar it is musically to KIIS-FM, or how some of the Recurrents/Gold titles in rotation are very West Coast. Z-100 actually plays some Rhythmic Gold/Recurrents that were hot on the NYC airwaves, but not necassarily national hits. Now 92.3 is foolishly/oddly enough ignoring these regional records.

Bottom line: Now 92.3 needs to do better research not just into past and present New York City CHRs, but also how to customize a CHR for the NYC market. You want to lean Rhythmic? Great! But play some Rhythmic/Hip Hop titles that sound like New York, and they definitely need to play a bit more high energy Dance

it's too early to tell on alot of things 92.3! so far it seems they are gunning for people who are tuning in to stay tuned in, although alot of repeats, but the imaging is so killer right now.

i am sure in a few days, a week there will be alot more to say on 92.3

They might be using the exact same playlist as Amp in LA. In a blind test, I could not find a difference between Amp and Now.

A bit too repetitive even for a CHR, though that might iron itself out. I think they sound fairly decent, though I agree with Chrles, that they more of a regional NY wound with some more dance, and if they are going to remain rhythmic need more of the NY gold/recurrent hip hop stuff.

IT is definitely more Rhythmic than Z100. But they do throw in the CHR Hits now and then. They could make it more local NY style, a bit more mature, but it is already more mature I think than Z100.

I am not a particular fan of CHR formats, and I stopped listening to Z100 after the late 90's. Now 92.3 did keep me listening with the dance and rhythmic hits thrown in, so I listened longer.

Its a bit too repetitive here and there. Maybe they should throw in a few "local hits" like Z100 used to do, some more New York Style Hip Hop, a few Dance hits, some Britney Spears modern stuf, some 90's grunge, Red Hot Chili Peppers or Nirvana, then back to Timberlake. They should stay away from the overly processed bubblegum pop, "cheese-food-product" radio Disney style "hit music" that leaves 8 year old girls screaming, and guys like me in their 20's leaving Z100 for other stations. * Now if they REALLY wanted to mix it up, they could throw in a couple Spanish Rock Reggeton/ orSpanish Dance CHR hits, to give a slight bilingual twist, Not too much, but just a couple , enough to localize.

Short story: In my book, Now 92.3 beats Z100, so far atleast.

Well thats my "review" for now. Ill keep listening I guess.

I guess that 92.3 "Now" would be the next "Kiss-FM" at 96.1 in Poughkeepsie which is a more rhythmic urban approach in the format like "Hot 97" and "Power 105" does, but it's different. If you go up to Albany, WFLY's "Fly 92.3" did play a fair amount of CHR and so does WKKF's "Kiss-FM" at 102.3 did okay, same format like the way 92.3 "Now" and "Z-100" are doing now since the station launched about two and a half hours ago.

Um.........HUH?????

So far I like the station. Sounds basically like Z-100 to me. I don't like rock music so I never tuned to 92.3 prior to today, but now it will definitely move up in my presets.

They're way too rhythmic, they only played one rock song, All American Rejects Gives You Hell, they also play the same songs and artists too much. It's really really repetative. They're bashing Z100 a lot.

I like how Now is being rhythmic, although they could selct more rhythmic songs than playing the same ones every half hour. Welcome to NYC's version of Wired.

They will be repetetive for a while. When you're trying to build cume, especailly in CHR, you BURN through your currents. Make sure you are never too far away from a hit!!

As for attacking Z100. May be amusing to the younger end of the demo, but the W25-34 should be turned off by that - especially attacking Elvis (as they did in their opening montage). He is not polarizing enough.

My personal preference musically is 92.3 NOW but it is tacky of them to attack Z100. It's clear they want to compete with Z in the market but Z100 was here first. Let NOW be their own entity and time will tell if they are successful as a rhythmic/chr.

Sounds good so far. Just like 97.1 AMP Radio I think. 92.3 Now FM will sound great like the rest of CBS Radio's CHR's; Kiss 95.1 Charlotte, Hot 95.7 Houston, B 94 Pittsburgh, Kiss 106.1 Seattle. And as for the bashing of z100, AMP Radio does the same to KIIS 102.7 like saying "KIIS wanna help pay our bills as were not playing any commericals"

B94 did not sound at all like 92.3 Now. There was much more rock and no pitching up the music. Clear Channel's 96.1 Kiss FM (both Pittsburgh and Poughkeepsie) sound like 92.3 Now.

B 94 does play more rhythmic hits then the old B 94 which made them fail before. The new B 94 is acting like a CHR should and is doing well. Enough talk of WBZW were surpose to be talking about 92.3 NOW FM.

I just thought of a slogan NOW FM can sometimes use. 92.3 NOW FM "So Now So New York, z100 so yesturday so boring" Fresh took shots at Lite so I would say it would be the same game now. Fresh vs. Lite, Now vs. Z

Given the names "Z" and "Lite", guess which station is CHR or AC.
Now given the names "Fresh" and "Now", guess which station is CHR or AC.

Uh, the station is called NOW! - why the [EDIT] would they play any recurrents or gold during a station launch.

Bottom line: You need to do better research. Do you really think they signed on this station without doing their homework? They have a plan in place that is positioned to make Z100 look old. Old = recurrents/gold.

can't wait to see you on the CBS/payroll, CHRles ::)
