first it was scars now it's....

That sucks. My local "Alternative", G Rock Radio (WHTG/WBBO, 106.3 & 106.5) plays the version without the screaming and a new part that recycles an earlier riff with some dumb lyrics over it. I could somewhat understand a Hot AC or even a CHR doing this (even though I wouldn't if I was running the latter type of station), but a station that calls itself Alternative? Utterly ridiculous.

I can't imagine what conversation took place when they made the decision to make a version of the song without that part ... "Hmmmm, let's send a version of Miss Murder to radio that edits the best part of the song." Not having that part totally kills the song for me - I like AFI's earlier stuff, but I bought this album despite bad reviews mostly for this reason.

These are the types of songs CHR must play.I am so sick of Paris Hilton (Please she isn't even that hot) Nelly Furtado etc all those rap & pop artists like that. The only good rap is Kanye West.

I totally agree that CHR needs more rock on their playlists - there are too much materialistic pop and hip-hop songs on the radio these days. Would it kill them to try playing Blue October, Three Days Grace, Rock Kills Kid, etc. and give "Promiscuous" or whatever is big right now a rest? There are a few hip-hop acts holding it down, but for the most part it's dumb tripe like "My Humps", "Laffy Taffy", "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It", "Grillz", etc. I'm hoping that Kanye West's protege Lupe Fiasco can make some impact on Urban and CHR - he's one of the few promising hip-hop acts that could possibly break the mainstream.

But those last two posts should be in another thread. This is about how irritating it is that record labels make "radio edits" cutting out screaming in certain songs ... Papa Roach's "Scars" and AFI's "Miss Murder" being two examples. For crying out loud, it's only one or two lines respectively - it's not like this is Cannibal Corpse or something.

And not only do they take out the screaming in "Miss Murder", but they take out the whole part, which is really lame. That part of the song is what songwriters typically refer to as the "payoff" or the "climax", and they removed it completely, including my local so-called "Alternative", G Rock Radio (WHTG/WBBO) in the Monmouth/Ocean market. That was the part of the song that really made it special - without it, all you have is a Simple Plan or an All American Rejects song, something on those levels. I really hope to see this practice come to an end - I may write to the record labels and the station(s) that play it, and I encourage others to do the same.

Couldn't agree more. But for dumb tripe, you forgot Yung Joc's "It's Goin Down'". And don't forget Danity Kane from MTB3 of which I heard most of their tracks and it sounds terrible. It's mostly all snap rap. (or wrapping, or whatever the hell D4L started)

For the tracks you mentioned, here they are

My Humps: Addictive dance song but I can see how it's dumb.

Laffy Taffy: Trash.

Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It: Trash.

Grillz: A song about teeth, need I say more?

Kick, Push: Nice track but don't see it happening.

I agree with Jeremy, spongebag and soulcrusher. It is highly unneccasary to edit out the "screaming vocals" in songs. I can somewhat understand why they do it (because...well, it's POP radio), but why even play these rocks songs, such as Miss Murder, if they're going to be so watered down? They might as well just not be on a station's playlist if they're going to edit so much...

You think all this is bad? Remember when Third Eye Blind's "Jumper" was on CHR. They edited out one simple scream after the guitar solo. An even more questionable move was when The Verve Pipe's "The Freshman" was a hit the "pop mix" contained a more somber melody on the line "thinks about him now and how he never really wept" instead of the album version, where Brian sang it just a tad louder than the other vocals. Despicable....
