First new AM log of 2016 - 1/20/2016

Finally...waited for quite a while for a new one.

800 - KBFP Bakersfield, CA; comedy in and out N-S (good Au conditions last night), ID "Comedy 800" at 2309 PT 1/20, back into standup with female comedian. SS under, likely XESPN. NEW #717, 440W at 780 miles. Been looking for this one for quite a while and finally faded up last night!

When I tuned around on my PR-D5 around midnight I heard XEROK 800 m(at least I think it was them : NW-SE bearing, ranchero music, and I've heard them maybe twice before) for maybe a minute, then it faded. Not much else auroral here. No KFOY on 1060, or other auroral California-Nevada markers...

Later in the morning (around 4 a.m.) it was like summer daytime conditions here.

Nice catch, Crainbebo. It's been a while since I've heard a comedy station on AM.

My first new AM log of the year was a graveyarder, 1450 KSEL in Portales, NM, at 7:04 CT on Jan. 3. I hadn't been on the frequency long and heard a "Cow Country" ID. This was followed by Merle Haggard's "That's the Way Love Goes," a sung "Cow Country" ID, and then Conway Twitty's "Slow Hand." The signal was fairly weak and faded as sunrise approached. The station is running 0.95 kW and is 423 miles from me.
