First New Log in a month 11/18/12

Tonight, I finally got a new log for the first time in a month. It's been the same 300 stations for a long time now, and until I start building that box loop (we are building a box loop to improve reception, with a variable capacitor) I probably won't get a lot of new logs.

1010-KCHJ Delano, CA; fair under CBU with lots of Mexican music. Matched what was playing on the Mohave Desert, CA Global Tuners node (it gets KCHJ in the daytime). Wouldn't be KOOR due to daytimer status and Russian format, and probably not KIQI either because IIRC they have M-O-Y-L at night, due to their Multicultural Broadcasting ownership.

New Log #463, presumed 5kw day power, 832 miles.

Crainbebo,

Please let us know when you get the box loop going. That should really help your reception and give you a good chance to pull in more stations from the midwest and east.
Do you expect to have it working during the MW DX season?

I have bought some 20 gauge wire, the capacitor and a tuning knob for the capacitor. Should help me out with WBBM, KSTP, WCCO etc. while improving regional channel reception ten-fold. Hopefully it will be done in December or January '13, but don't count on it.

I used to pick up WCCO in Lynnwood, WA and KSTP in Mount Vernon, WA. KSTP still pops up now and then. I've never heard WBBM under (or over) KKOH (I did pick up WBBM-FM 96.3 once via tropo in Vantage, WA.) and possibly WLUP-FM (couldn't get an ID, but it was playing a rock format.)

That WBBM-FM log was likely a double hop E-skip log. That is VERY rare! Vantage to Chicago is around 1600+ miles, so it wouldn't be single-hop (like Seattle to Denver or Los Angeles to Dallas skip).

WBBM is somewhat easy in the winter. Sometimes it comes in early evening, but other times very late in the evening. Just listen for a "105.9 FM" mention under KKOH-then you have them.
