Dude, I remember Allston-Brighton Free Radio was running syndicated Pacifica programming over ten years ago. Whatever.

Of course Pacifica, and especially shows like Democracy Now!, specifically makes themselves available to Community stations, be they legal or otherwise. I would wonder how "Fat Man Scoop" might feel about being associated with a pirate. It does rather take away from the philosophy of localism (and Pacifica didn't last long on ABFree anyway)

Fat Man Scoop came thru and did extensive interviews at the station. Chubby Chub is personal friends with him.

For a pirate station, they sure are acting like a serious legit station. And if people are supporting it, well, there's a reason for it.

Many pirate stations run streaming audio. Give them a listen, and you'll find the majority of them "act like" legit stations. That's because they really do care about bringing effective radio to their listening audience. In fact, on that score I'll contradict myself; when you consider all the legal stations that do next to nothing to really service their listeners, the pirates don't act like legit stations at all.

The listeners really don't give a damn if a station is "legit" or not. So when a pirate acts in their interest it's easy to attract listeners.

I'm surprised the FCC fined them for being on 97.5, but not a single NOUO for operating on 87.7.
They may not be interfering with anyone at 87.7, but what gives them the right to broadcast on 87.7 and no one else. I could just put up a bigger transmitter on 87.7 in Boston and they can't do anything about it.
I really think they should petition for an analog LPTV license for channel 6 in Boston. There is potential even with their signal and frequency. Pulse 87.7 in NYC got a 1.0 share and a million cume. Now we won't ever know Hot 87.7's ratings because they're a pirate, but their ratings won't be small either since they have a format that is underserved in the market.

and, of course, FPB and I were both on a pirate station--Allston-Brighton Free Radio, which started out "legal" but eventually went as high as 50 watts (I think) at the upper end of the AM dial. I think the furthest I heard it reach was the intersection of Rt. 1 and Rt. 16 in Revere
