First time winning a radio contest

Today I won my first radio contest. I won almost $200. I had to guess the combination code of a make believe vault. So what memories do you have of winning your first radio contest and what did you win?

Name it and claim it! On KTKT (990 AM) Tucson.

And I don't think I needed to be the ninth caller,
just the first one with the correct title and artist,
to win...

It's Alright by Adam Faith.

On a 45 rpm record. You know, the seven-inch disc
with the big hole in the center. A-side and b-side.

Now all of you are probably rushing to your Joel Whitburn
just to see how long ago that was!

Hey, I was only three. ;D

WKBW/Buffalo.......1960......."Jungle Jay" Nelson/AM drive

I lived around the corner from the 50,000 watt flamethrower.
Jungle Jay put out a call for the wierdest thing he could get.

I swiped a necktie with a naked showgirl looking backwards at you from between her legs with the caption "Bottoms Up!", from my fathers closet....and a eucalyptus tree that I had made from a newspaper (as seen in Mad Magazine).... and a large hip bone from a cow that had been brought home for our dog, who had since died.

I Won!

An autographed picture of Jay, and a Clyde McPhatter record.

I knew then that Radio was for me.

I don't remember the station's call letters but I do remember their sister station's, which was WEBO-AM in Owego, NY. The contest was on their FM station and I had to guess if their newsman would make or miss a shot with a toy basketball. He missed and I won a grab bag of goodies that included a book on how to play guitar, a White Lion LP, a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses and a copy of the documentary Paul McCartney voiced and hosted called "The Real Buddy Holly Story".
