First to Worst?

In case you missed it, our resident painter dropped this little nugget in the "Regent to Buy CBS Buffalo" thread...

Speaking of weak, sources say WGR's first month of the Summer was an absolute disaster. A friend inside Entercom described it as "going from first to worst and maybe worse than worst." Yikes![/Mike]

If Mike's sources are right, will we hear "Mensa Mike" and "The Bulldog" commenting about THAT on air? Perhaps we'll have to wait for the next book to be embargoed, huh?

In the meantime, I expect them to petition the NHL for a 12-month hockey season...

Hey, if they're going to brag about their ratings when the Sabres are in the playoffs, they should "man up" and take the flack when it becomes apparent that people were listening to their show in spite of them, not because of them.

Perhaps they need to spend more time discussing SPORTS, and less time discussing LIFESTYLE.

I admit I'm not really a sports guy, I'm a music and radio guy. WGR was a fantastic station in the '70's and '80's. I mean they had it all. Great personalities, music, talk, news, and sports...it was "Full Service Radio". It would be great to have a station AM or FM do radio like that again!

Sorry you guys are probably tired of hearing how great WGR used to be! I'm over it....

The time where the hockey season ends and football begins is a WASTELAND for sports. It consists of "what if's" and "wait til' next season".
Unless a sports station has a local MAJOR league baseball team (sorry Bisons fans) it usually slumps in the summer months. Stations with baseball, especially AM's such as WEEI Boston (Red Sox), WGN Chicago (Cubs) and for a long time, KMOX St Louis (Cardinals), usually do quite well, at least 12+. Without MLBB, it's not unusual for other sports talkers to drop to a 2 or 3 share.

Did you mean "drop two or three shares" or, as written, "drop to a two or three share?" For what it's worth, I heard the July number for WGR was such that a 2 or 3 share would be welcomed.[/Mike]
