First WODS Jock back on the Radio

I was listening to Mix 104.1 this morning and Karen Blake was on the radio doing the Saturday morning 6-10am. show. I just wanted to spread the word.

Nice. I think they should put her on in the afternoon with Fast Freddy or solo. Then have Greg, sue, and maybe Fast Freddy in the morning. Then, they should move Karson and Kennedy to mornings at Amp. My two cents.

Karen Grace, Karen Blake. It is just so confusing. At least the spectacularly untalented ex-midday jok isn't cluttering up the airwaves quite yet.

That's a clown comment, bro.

Seriously, that's a dick of a comment, totally unsolicited. Paula was a great midday jock.

To whomever is 'thirdendorsed.' Lady or Dude, you are such an ass that even an ass thinks you are an ass. Paula Street is one of the best jocks in this market. Grow up and sign off. You are an insult to any profession.

Amen, Barry. Paula was a VERY talented jock. I didn't listen to WODS much, but I when I did, she was usually on (or you! or JJ) and I gotta tell you: WODS had a VERY talented airstaff. And "thirdendorsed": how DARE you say that? She's had experience for a LONG time! What do you have to show for it?

Oh, if I owned a station, I would have her try to get on the staff. I think she can do many formats very well. JJ as well. After all, wasn't he on Kiss 108 back in the day?

Hey "Bro"--- it's a free country- If that person thinks the ex-midday jock is untalented then they can say so-

You must be an Obama supporter.....

Celebrating the fact that someone is still out of work without backing up an empty and unkind statement? Hey, if that's what you're into, cool.

I'm into saying things that actually have a justification.

Saying things like the ratings don't lie: You don't keep a jock on a station for TWENTY-FOUR YEARS if she's not getting a job done in a top 10 market. This isn't a sentimental business, people are fired every day.

Paula Street is a talented person, and she's got the ratings and revenue to back up that statement.

I worked at OLDIES 1O3 2 TIMES
AND "PAULA" was the ONE who trained me On The control board
Everything!...I've NEVER met in radio a More CARING, HELPFULL Person
She REALLY cared that I knew Everything I needed and felt Comfortable
I filled in for her and Everybody Else...SHE IS THE BEST!!!!
THE "BEST"MIDDAY TALENT IN BOSTON or the USA

I apologize for a comment that was intended as sarcasm and to mock the disregard for on-air talent that we see in people that have taken over the industry. I stupidly failed to understand that the mocking tone in my mind's voice was not conveyed via words on a screen. Unfortunately this poor attempt at wit was made worse by being intentionally over the top.

The outraged comments are well founded and I also apologize to friends and colleagues of the person I ignorantly insulted. I respect broadcasters and I'm glad broadcasting professionals set the record straight. Outside of some of the classical guys and a quartet of AM drive stars, nobody in the business racks up that kind of longevity in one day part at one station. It is the mark of a unique and very professional talent.

JJ Wright was on WRKO - one of at least 3 JJ's that were on the air.

JJ Jeffrey and JJ Jordan were the others.

I hope WROR would at least consider Paula and JJ in that 10 AM - 4 PM slot which isn't staffed - but then again there is no reason for WROR to take on salary.

Weekends WROR is set with Mauzy Stafford and Paul Perry.

Perry is the poster child on how cruel the biz can be. He was ousted at WODS to make room for Dorman but CBS gave him mornings at WJMK in Chicago. That was going well until Jack-FM came without warning. He got hired at WROR and was doing afternoons and now does weekends.

Here is what I ponder. The 'Music Of Your Life' format struck gold in the late 70's as displaced MOR listeners from WHDH and WEZE embraced it.

I do believe if 1200 or 1510 tried music from the 60's and 70's they would attract an audience - but would the music fees doom it?

They would have to put some marketing muscle behind it, as well as hire JJ, Paula and other ex WODS DJ's to help generate buzz. Could a "Oldies 1200" or a reborn WMEX work? WSAI and KB 1520 managed to get some traction when they went oldies, but that was now 10 years ago. WMTR in Morristown NJ makes some change for GM, but it is tracked outside of AM drive.

I would love to see oldies music with local, loved personalities come back and at least TRY to make money - but with the current mindset at Corporate Radio HQ, I wouldn't bet on it. At the very least, oldies/classic hits has a need in this market, but translating listeners into ad dollars is another thing.

Great Scott, Barry!

The following is on the facebook of "Barry Scott of the Lost 45s":
>>BOSTON AREA LISTENERS!! BIG NEWS!!
BIG NEWS WILL BE ANNOUNCED RIGHT HERE ON TUESDAY, 8/21! STAY TUNED!!

Whether it means a new home for his show, or a CD release or a concert, who knows.
It's also on his lost45.com webpage
BOSTON AREA LISTENERS!! BIG NEWS!!

BIG NEWS WILL BE ANNOUNCED RIGHT HERE ON TUESDAY, 8/21! STAY TUNED!! THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR KIND SUPPORT!!

He gave a hint on his facebook page that his show will be returning on the radio. He didn't release the full frequency but he said ''I'll be back in .7''

105.7 WROR? 100.7 WZLX?

CBS had bounced him, would they take him back?

I had suggested to Barry that he contact CC about poss. getting on WHBA, as they launched the format.
He said he didn't know if they'd go for it, but who knows--and he knew someone who works for CC...

I'm probably going to go with 105.7 WROR or 101.7 WHBA just because The Lost 45's genre is oldies/classic hits while 100.7 WZLX is a Classic rock format so i doubt that CBS Radio would put his programming on WZLX.
