Fish Changes

Anyone notice this trend numbers for Fish? Funny all of the talk on GST auditions, Q100 whatever but Fish is killing them in the numbers. Not too bad for a niche format. They're over Lite, Beyot, even hot this trend. I've noticed them much hotter on the music lately. Like it. Tighter sound.

I've always had to sit here and smile at the endless discussions about 99X, The Beat, Q100, Dave FM, WGST, Star 94 and so forth and almost never a mention of the Fish when, for the past 3 years or so, they've been a major player in the #11 market. No matter what you think of them or the music, they're obviously doing a lot right. Anyone know if there are any other major markets with an AC Christian station in the top 10?

KLTY in Dallas was #9 in the most recent release. They've been higher than that in the past, like top five.
______________

I think KLTY has pulled off top 3 women 25-54...I am not sure how well the Fish does women 25-54.

Or a lot of people out there like songs about an invisible Sky Daddy.

Colorado Springs' KBIQ is doing very well, too. They're in a three-way tie for third place there.
______________

Re: fish format

So far we have mentioned stations that have been on at minumum 10 years yet the Atlanta Fish is not even 5 and has been a quality operation since its launch.

The lastest Georgia Association of Broadcasters just gave them another stack of awards in best DJ (Dan Ratcliffe) best show (Kevin & Taylor), best produced commercial and best in community service. I do not see Lite or B which are their main competitors doing the total on-air job that the Fish. Cox can do it because just look at WSB-AM along with Kiss.

Re: fish format

These days, the Fish is the only commercial station I can listen to for any length of time in the car. When I leave the Atlanta Market, I find myself looking for a station like the Fish and not finding anything close. I am a Fish fan. They do go off the air a lot though. Just Monday afternoon, I was on I-85 in Suwannee and the Fish went off-the-air in the middle of a song. No signal at all! I could hear the weak in and out signal of the Birmingham station at 104.7. I decided to wait on the Fish to return instead of changing stations. They always do this in songs I like too. (lol) I'm sure they will continue to do well. We also forget that Atlanta has so many Christian stations fighting with the Fish for those listeners, including another commercial FM (J-93.3), so they do work hard for those listeners. I listen to the Fish because I like the music at the Fish and the on-air talent is excellent. It's an excellent listen all day station! My second favorite station is Victory 91.5, which has more golds, great teaching and some harder stuff mixed-in. Victory isn't talked about much here, but they are a great station. Atlanta is blessed to have two great stations like these. Again, I can't find a match anywhere for these two when I travel outside the metro area. I'll listen to the Fish until it fades out, when I travel.
______________

I think major is no more than arbitron rated market #20 and Birmingham is around market #50.

Re: fish format

If we simply add the ratings for J93 and the Fish we see that the format is an even bigger player in this market.
