Fish Morning Show

All the talk on the radio-info boards about Atlanta morning shows tend to rarely mention the 8 year old Kevin and Taylor morning show on Christian AC The Fish. The Fish still has their original morning show in place with a team that worked together in West Palm Beach before coming here. Salem has a history of changing out morning shows on their stations on a regular basis but it has not happened here. Would this team work well on a mainstream AC station? Please don't base opinions on this team on religion or simply the fact that 30 year old female focused morning shows don't appeal to you. They must be doing plenty right to stay on Atlanta radio.

I'm in total agreement, Rick. Let's carry it a bit farther. In 8 years they've also had only 2 different morning show producers, and the second one JUST joined them a few months ago. Dan Ratcliff and Mike Stoudt have been with the station since it first went on air here and Parks Stamper has been there almost as long. The on-air longevity is impressive, as is the work that goes into the morning show production.

Say what you will - and no doubt posters on this board (who are highly skewed more towards TRG, or the two Live Stews, or Q100) will - but they offer something that's pretty hard to find on most Atlanta radio stations for that demographic. It's sort of the equivalent of Oprah vs. Springer. Most moms don't want their kids to hear a lot of what's coming out in the mornings on many of the top stations and know that the Fish really IS safe. Make fun of it if you want, but it's a formula that works, based on the Fish's consistently being in the top 10-15 EVERY single book for as long as I can remember.

I think both Atlanta Christian FM's have great morning shows. The husband-wife duo on J93 do a top notch job as do the morning Fishies.
The Fish does hold it's own in the overall 12+ ratings - how do the morning show numbers look?

Because we know nothing is more safe than being told you are going to hell. :D Actually, I definitely wouldn't want my kids listening to TRG. I can't believe it when I hear a parent call in saying their 10-year-old is in the car listening as well. Obviously, Kevin and Taylor have a lot of committed listeners.

And I challenge you to document any single time in the past 10 years where either J93 or the Fish said anything even remotely close to that. Of course they don't. They simply gear their shows to family-friendly, wholesome topics that most parents appreciate. If you're a stoned-out, drugged out rocker, odds are it won't appeal to you. If you're married with kids, odds are it's a LOT more in your comfort zone than most of the other 'mess' out there.

What exactly does TRG mean?

I've never heard Kevin say anything about going to hell I don't think I've everheard him says Its hot as Hell. So if your going to accuse anyone you better know your facts.
If you want to be offended by someone sharing there FAITH you probably should listen to Rick and Bubba.

I was just joking around. I'd be surprised if the Fish morning show said anything close to controversial. That includes talking about hell (which, isn't really something Jesus avoided talking about). Anyway, TRG (The Regular Guys) have more topics that would offend my children. Yes, I have a daughter. If she wanted to listen to the Fish, I wouldn't try to disuade her at all. But I'd surely be bothered by either wimpy music or lyrics that I strongly disagree with. This is coming from someone who only listened to CCM from '96 to '00. I know the music.

TRG=The Regular Guys. Funny, great radio and definitely NOT family-friendly, although a lot more intelligent than they initially come across as.

When my daughter is in the car, she usually wants to listen to Radio Disney (either XM or 590). The Holy Mackerel is another good family-friendly choice.

WoW! 7 plus years here and I'm finally mentioned in a Radio-Info posting -- AND my name was spelled correctly. Wonders never cease!

Thanks for the bit of kudos. I know I speak for the other DJs in that we've all worked hard to make the station a competitive one and enjoy the continuous challenge it brings -- wherever those challenges may come from. I've definitely enjoyed my 'ride' in Atlanta so far.

As a side, I've noticed a lot of posters simply not happy with Atlanta radio. My two cents: I think Atlanta has a great selection of stations with some great talent. This business is hard enough having to work within the confines of what management says 'must go' for on-air. I have many acquaintances at other stations, am a fan of some other stations and love what this town has to offer. When I take trips outside Atlanta, I cringe at what I hear passes for radio; and I'm always happy when I get back to the city.

But it's always good to keep challenging ourselves and others I guess. I'm rambling at this point. Again, thanks for noticing we're still going strong!

Thumbs up. I think people can be too critical at times. While things are never perfect, this city has a fair amount of decent programming.
