fisher

Anyone wondering whether or not Sinclair will keep radio need only look at the 1Q financials Fisher released today.

"Radio net revenue was down 9% year-over-year to $4.3 million due to market softness."
"Radio cash flow was down $0.22 million to $0.65 million; radio cash flow margin of 15% was down from 18%."

Meanwhile, TV revenue was UP 12%.

What would YOU keep or sell?

This would a perfect time for an owner that has never been in the market (Citidel perhaps?), and for KOMO-AM/FM, to have an operations/news agreement with Sinclair, to keep KOMO radio close to KOMO-TV. A new entity in the market could also purchase KMCQ and move the news to 104.5, and move the oldies/classic hits to 97.7FM, thereby bringing 97.7, 101.5, 104.5, 570, and 1000 under one roof.

I used to get so frustrated at FSCI shareholder meetings...they didn't have the most, how you put it, "stellar" cast at the helm of the ship just a few years back. When people would raise the issue of why they were paid so dang much to produce what they were allegedly "producing" .... the board members would get very defensive about "we HAVE to pay these people very well or they will go somewhere else to work". I kept wondering why the big picture from that very statement was NOT obvious to EVERYONE in the room!!!

Blue,

It looks like you made a good investment if you've held. The coming months should be interesting.

For your shares LITTLEBOYBLUE, Sinclair had better fork it over - And BIG ;) ......

Been watching on-line newscasts this week, noticed that KOMO's logo bug has been missing all week. Somebody asleep at the wheel, or is this intentional for some reason?

What's next, a change to "ABC 4", and adding Fox-like syndicated programming ala KDNL/WXLV? I hope not.

I think the logo bug is annoying because they keep that stupid "#LiveOnKOMO" up on the screen, all the time. I don't use Twitter for any reason!

Wow, Rob Dunlop is going to make $1.5 million plus the 45% bonus of base salary. Not bad for a person who began as Larry Nelson's producer.

I don't use twitter for any reason that is such a narrow minded limited capacity archaic attitude. You are missing out and will go extinct like the dinosaurs. That's the equivalent to saying I don't use the that new fangled thing called a telephone....what the hell is that. All that really shows is how out of touch you are and that it's best you stay out of radio and allow those of us who "get it" to connect, relate and reach the listening audience. Why do you think corporations and all use twitter? Uh let me take a guess.....oh I don't know maybe to reach their customers? Tweet that!

Wow! That snarky last post in response to not liking Twitter is probably why a lot of us don't like Twitter. It seems to encourage people to be mean spirited, short tempered, and to default to "kneejerk" mode. If you can make shotgun posts like that on Twitter without suffering any consequences, what's to stop you from being like that everywhere else in life? And that's Just what kind of material you DON'T want to associate with a newscast. Seeing Twitter posts scrawled along the bottom of the screen on KIRO-TV's fireworks show last night will give you even more reasons to keep unscreened Twitter posts off of your programming, er, product.

I say keep your tweets and in comprehensible half-sentence comments on Twitter - and don't clutter up the TV screen during your programming. Just because I'm watching on a larger screen than I did ten years ago doesn't mean I want it to be filled up with dancing logos and shiny objects to distract me from what's actually on. It's not only ugly and dizzying and breaks the mood of whatever you're programming - it also tells me you as a station do not value or respect the programming you're offering enough to avoid interrupting it with nonstop mindless "twivia."

I believe we can thank Viacom for almost every on-screen pollution element. The WORST are the actor promos that appear bottom left to push another show while you're trying to enjoy the one that is on. Viacom, I believe, introduced the "logo bug" ... the animated promos .. the live-action mini-promos, the graphics that stay on almost the entire show pushing a "new" episode or another show, etc. As you suggested, it screams "we don't care WHAT you watch....just get counted in our audience so we can make more money". Unfortunately, all the on-demand alternatives to broadcast (which ARE threatening the audience loyalty and size) are providing alternatives THE WAY people WANT it. More Wall Street arrogance.

On some cable networks, they do that type of logo bug "NEW EPISODE OF (INSERT HERE) TUESDAY 10/9 CENTRAL" on the lower right.

Then when Tuesday at 10PM comes, it says "NEW EPISODE OF (INSERT HERE) NOW". DUH!!!
