Fix Up An MP3 File Question.

What would be the recommended choice to fix up a sloppy low to medium grade song on MP3 file? The song seems to have been recorded without that stereo boom sound and may be in Mono or simply a lower-grade private recording. The song itself is is good listening condidtion, just the singer sounds muffled.

My question is:

What would everyone recommend I use to fix this MP3 file up to improve sound quality? Cool Edit Pro? Or is there a special program designed more specifically for this use alone? Any cheap alternatives?

Thanks everyone!

I suggest downloading it from ITunes....for 99 cents its not worth wasting your time with Cool Edit or other programs trying to fix it; you could easily spend hours trying to fix it. By the way....ITunes quality is VERY good. What you do is simple....download from Itunes...burn to CD...re rip at 192 or 256 kps to get your MP3 (Itunes software will actually let you rerip from your burned CD to MP3!). You must rerip because ITunes songs directly downloaded are in AAC format, not compatible with MP3. But AAC's make great CD ripped copies!! Essentially no generational loss.
