Fair? What does that mean?
I've had the pleasure of meeting Greg while he was in the process
of buying the stations - and it wouldn't surprise me if he decided
to drop the service. Greg's a smart guy.
It does surprise me that Red Rock was the only group buying the
book. Typically, Arbitron won't commit to a survey unless there's
a minimum subscriber level.
Well if nobody's paying Arbitron, nobody's buying the product so
why survey the area?
For subscribers, they have to realize ROI: is there enough
national and regional business for stations that depend on
Arbitron to get the buy plus make money on top of it.
I doubt it. But I could be wrong.
Honestly, in my opinion, the Flagstaff Arbitron was troubled.
I'm under the impression that whoever decided on the parameters
of the market elected to have a large geographic area (and
resulting population) to boost the market rank. But with the
sample that widespread, ratings were a roller coaster for a lot
of stations.
