Flagstaff question

Perhaps completely off base, but it would seem with the growing Spanish-speaking population in Flagstaff/Northern Arizona that one of the stations on the small AM band would consider a like format. Does anybody think there is a possibility for such... it would seem KYET, which penetrates Flagstaff (17% Hispanic) by day with 10kW but doesn't get out of Williams (33% Hispanic) by night, would be a candidate seeing the many FM country outlets which would seem to overshadow it. Just a thought...

I believe KYET has been dark for almost 5 years now. Nothing on 1180 coming into Flagtown.

It's on low power of 6.2kW... didn't think it had been that long, though. Wow. IIRC, their STA runs rather soon. It would seem to have potential once they could penetrate Flag by day. Although that night signal is another story.

Despite the Phx AMs coming in up there, it would seem someone could get a permit for a third AM facility up there. Maybe then sports fans wouldn't have to listen to Jim Rome in a certain parking lot near Mars Hill.

Were you looking at the site just north of downtown and south of the freeway? Per RecNet, in 2003 application was made to move the site about 4 or 5 miles east, east of where the Santa Fe tracks divide. What I don't understand: the coordinates for the daytime site are totally different from those of the nighttime site.

Yes - the transmitter site next to I40 is long gone.

I've seen the applied for new site on rec.net but I haven't seen anything there. There is no signal on 1180 that I've heard, as previously mentioned.

By the way, nighttime KYET coverage was strong at the bottom of the Grand Canyon when it was last on the air, so their signal did get somewhere - not many listeners down there though.
