Flagstaff: Red Rock sale finalized; GM Jim Perrine OUT

A reliable inside source has informed me that the sale of Red Rock Communications (Owner Tom Rockler) to Greg Dinetz's Grenax Broadcasting is final.

The stations are KSED (KOLT Country 107.5), KFLX (105.1 The Eagle), and KWMX (Cool 96.7).

Greg's first move is the dismissal of GM Jim Perrine. Good move. Jim took Red Rock for a ride and made numerous bad decisions. Some advertisers would not buy spots because he was inconsiderate and unreasonable. He never cared about anyone but himself and his Mercedes-Benz.

One word- Karma.

Greg is a sharp guy. He should make several more good moves in the coming months. Look for these stations to start sounding better and better with time.

No replacement for a GM has been announced as of yet.

This is some of the best news I've heard in a long time! It was time for Jim to get the door. Your absolutely right about Karma. Hopefully some great format changes and new programming will soon follow. Flagstaff has been living in the dark ages musically on it's stations for far too long. It's not like we can receive Phoenix stations up here either. Although we used to get some of the Phoenix stations like KUPD up here. Don't know what happened,but we don't get them anymore. It's satellite radio or crappy radio in Flagstaff. Things can only get better.

Try satellite. You'll love it.

I imported KDKB (and some others) via FM translator for a number of years, and Jay Zucker rebroadcast KUPD. I can't speak for Jay, but FCC rule changes really killed this sort of translator broadcast, along with targeted, competitive efforts from the Flagstaff station's sales departments.

HA! Karma is right. Too bad for Jim Pirhana. Phoenix...Flagstaff...what's next? Winslow, Window Rock, Tuba City or mabye a tour of Southern Arizona - Ajo, Douglas, Morenci, Wilcox. I'm sure there's radio people in those towns that haven't learned to "Swim With the Sharks" yet.

Oh yah. Whats up with Flag Arbs ? Haven't seen any #'s on that market in a long time . One of those embargoed towns ? How do the Guyann stations sound ?

What's up longhairdude?

I personally have no idea about Flagstaff's ratings. My association with Pirhana was elsewhere. I'm sure the cluster he managed has nowhere to go but up now, though.

I don't know how the GuyAnn stations (KAFF, KMGN, KTMG & KNOT, right?) sound. I haven't been north of Anthem in two years. I avoid driving I-17 North like the plague.

How do the Guyann stations sound ?

I really enjoy 93.9 KMGN "The Mountain" --
Eddie Miller, afternoon drive, really puts out a good sounding classic rock show. He keeps us informed regarding concerts in the state, rock people's birthdays and then plays some of their music. Eddie really sounds like he's having fun putting out the music and it keeps me coming back. There seems to be a wider range of music that goes deeper than the top hits. They are a little more adventuresome with new classic rock as well.

Mike Minter in the morning starts too late for me to listen in the AM drive. From what I have heard of him, he deserves some kudos as well.


I don't listen to much country.

I hear ya . Been awhile for since I headed up north . Hard on my car :)

I've been an XM customer for 3 years now. I love it!
