Oh boy. Where do I even begin with this nightmare?
Cumulus has flushed Q100's only remotely entertaining daypart besides mornings. First things first, the production is absolutely unacceptable. The segues are sloppy, and the various production elements (music, sweepers, etc.) don't always flow like they should. Hearing a moment or two of dead air between elements isn't unusual at all. Moreover, the station is not adequately branded during the show. Yes, I know this is a PPM world, but imaging is still important. I'd like to think that maybe Q100 is avoiding station identification so listeners don't actually associate this monstrosity with their brand, but I doubt they're that smart.
Not impressed by the content, either. Lots of C-list interviews and almost no personality depth when an interview isn't being teased. Say what you want about Seacrest, but his show is vastly more topical and entertaining than Bush's. Whenever I hear a half-assed "Here's Black Eyed Peas, 'I Gotta Feeling'" with NO other content over a song intro, I want to scream at the radio. There's no energy or forward momentum whatsoever. Finally, the show's slow-paced format is a total mismatch for nights. I also find the music comical, in that various rhythmic recurrents which Q100 refuses to touch during the day and didn't even bother play as nights-only records during the late Adam Bomb days (Akon's "Beautiful," Ne-Yo's "Miss Independent," Flo Rida's "Right Round") suddenly start showing up. Then you randomly hear a Jan Jeffries favorite like "Clocks," "Love Like This" or "Time of My Life." Brilliant.
I don't care what the ratings say, Cumulus has completely dismantled Q100. Isn't this supposed to be one of their marquee stations? I've always thought Darik on Star is a superb talent, but at least he had solid competition with Adam. Nights are now his and his alone. Especially considering Star's improvements in recent weeks, I really hope Q100's days of running the table against Star are coming to a close.
