Flame Wars

I've been visiting this message board for nearly three years now. I don't think I have EVER seen anything like the complete mess that is the current state of the board.

Although I'm not in the "business" (I'm software developer at a financial company), I come here to find out the latest news on my favorite stations and personalities as well as to learn more and more about radio as a huge fan. Lately, it seems like all I find is personal fights between Joe Viglione, Nik Carter and Paul Marshall. It has become increasingly difficult to find informative and interesting threads on this board in amongst the flame wars that clutter it. Furthermore, I suspect that many readers and posters like myself who keep on the topic of radio and do not participate in these personal attacks don't even bother trying to post here anymore.

It's really sad that so few people can ruin what is intended to be a very informative and intriguing forum for the discussion of radio for so many people. My words here are not intended as personal attack on anyone as I don't even know Joe or Paul are aside from seeing them post on this board and doing a Google search on them to read about their work. I know who Nik is only because I've heard him a couple times while with friends that listen to BCN and because he's so well known. But you guys as well as the anonymous posters who are carrying on these fights and personal attacks are all behaving like children.

I understand that we all have egos and, in any field, we become defensive when people attack our work, especially if we take great pride in our work. But you guys have to see how childish you are behaving. I can't even imagine what it must be like to work in the radio industry if successful guys like Paul and Nik behave like this, especially in a public forum for all to see. I also can't even imagine how embarrassed I would be in my own profession if my peers and colleagues witnessed me behaving like this.

Like I said above, I write this not as a personal attack on any of you. I have no vested interest in your arguments and gripes with each other, other than I want this board to remain open because, in the absence of these ridiculous fights, I really enjoy coming here to learn more about Boston radio from the professionals. As such, I really hope that Paul and Nik, as well as any other radio "professionals" involved in these personal attacks, will stop fueling the fire and start behaving like professionals. Most everyone here knows who you guys are and we know how successful you guys are, so you can stop defending yourselves against one person. As far as you are concerned Joe, please stop injecting so many threads on here with your off-topic remarks that often have no purpose other than to smear someone's name. In short, all of you, please GROW UP so that the rest of us can enjoy this board and use it for its intended purpose!!

I will be really upset if this board is closed although I don't blame Steve at all for requesting its closure. I don't know how he has put up with this for so long now. He must have the patience of a saint. Being moderator of this board must be like being the principal at an elementary school specifically for poorly behaved children.

That's my two cents. I hope that you guys will have enough class not to personally attack me as an innocent bystander who just wants the board to stay open. A quick review of my posting history will show that I've never gotten involved in your arguments and that I've been a member of Radio-Info for a long time. Thanks to anyone that has taken the time to read this.

Apologies (again)

You are absolutely correct on all fronts.

My apologies.

I write in response with a purpose to entertain, but realize that it may be viewed as you've so eloquently described.

Please accept my apologies, and this serves as my promise to not respond to any further postings by a certain person who's baited us all.

Paul

Re: Apologies (again)

Thanks, Paul. I hope others follow suit and not respond to a start of a non-radio subject thread, especially when it contains personal attacks.

I apologize for not cleaning the mess sooner - it's been a busy week as I've been back on-air part-time, as well as working my regular job. I'm doing my best to keep up, so please bear with me.

Congrats on getting back behind the mic. Where are you working?

Until Cumulus/Myrtle Beach hires a new OM/PD for Sunny 106.5 (oldies), I'm doing afternoon drive. After that, it's anyone's guess, though I'll go back to co-hosting a local sports talk show for the cluster's sports station (2 days a week). Thanks for the good cheer.

it's not so much the starting of a "non-radio" thread. it's when a person(s) uses the thread to backhand people who ARE working! and for not being up to thier "standards" of radio employment. i admit im guilty also! but i only post to rebutt one guy here, I'ts like making faces at caged monkeys or mooing at cows as you drive by. you don't know why you do it! but you do!

And like paul said Congrats getting back on the air!

even though it's only weekends..........just kidding. good luck!

Myrtle Beach is some fiiiiiiine real estate. Don't be in any hurry to leave :)

Re: Apologies (again)

Gentlemen (and ladies),

All apologies are accepted. I made this offhand remark the last time we had a bad thread, that threads would simply be deleted without further explanation. That's still true, but understand that we mods don't sit in front of the computer screen just waiting for a post to moderate. We got lives. And mine has been very busy just like Randy's. So, you guys cut us moderators a bit of slack as well.

If you really feel the need to clear the air, email me at my registered email address and we'll chat.

Things are happening here at Radio-Info, and you guys need to clean up your act on this and the other boards you post at. But.... this is largely an apology thread, and as such, thanks for everyone's frankness. Enjoy your weekend and lets be kind to one another, okay?

Well an idea might also be to keep a more watchful eye on one poster in particular because he is the one who virtually always is the one to:

A. Make it personal by way of attacks
B. Make it about anything but radio
C. Try to bring other agendas into the threads like the swift boat fogies etc.
D. If called on his behavior he attacks everyone including the moderators.

You know this so just sit on him and make it impossible for him to infect the baord with the poison.

thank you

I'd like to add...please.

And BTW...this individual seems to disappear whenever the board gets to this temperature. Only to reappear to drop another grenade on whatever topic is moving along at the time.

Re: Apologies (again)

Don't respond just like Randy said! It's as simple as that!

Failing to provide a response just encourages those who are intent on using this board as their own personal soapbox and mudslinging facility to take over.

These people have been banned multiple times. Clearly they need to keep getting banned until they get the message.

Not really, with all due respect to you and Randy its easy for you to say dont respond, its as simple as that, you're not the ones being slandered on the board. And although most know that its usually someone's personal agenda at work, you never know who will read this board and take it somewhat seriously especially when you're the one being talked about.

LMAO

It just gets stranger and stranger doesnt it?!

LOL

The solution is simple

Ban the guy.

Very simple. Almost every flame war on this board begins with him.

And when it comes time to face the wrath of the entire board...he disappears.

It's been two days since he posted. You know why?

Because that's what bullies do. They toss barbs, and attack. And then when it comes time to face up to their actions...they cower.

I applaud the Moderators en masse for not banning anyone. I think it's a noble decision, and thank them profusely for their tolerance. But...this issue will continue to rear it's ugly head. It may not be me, or Nik, or ihatepeoplenamedjoe, or Travis, but someone will take the bait, and the man will get his way again.

Unless he's made to leave for good.

I've suggested legitimate registration as a solution. And understand why it hasn't been implemented. But, we can't have it both ways. Either the guy goes, or we deal with what he presents by ignoring him. It can be done, but it will be an exercise in discipline.

I apologize too!

I apologize too...for being offline for a few days.
If yer not gonna laugh with me I'd like you to at
least laugh at me!

Was feeling awful all weekend and collapsed
right after coming back from WNSH
(literally, not figuratively; so I guess the
voodoo some of ya order actually worked).
My lawyers wanted to get sympathy notes from all the
members of my fan club
(they've nicknamed the variety of screen names P1 P2 P3, N2,N3,N104
and O1 O2 O3) but, alas...

now for...the good news (or bad, depending on your
point of view) to quote the girl from SIXTH SENSE
"I'm feeling much better now".

(Yes, Paul, I'm in agreement with you - entertain.
Some people should lighten up (Poltergeist sound, please)
