C'mon, it's not like First Broadcasting cares. They'll sell this stick, probably at a loss (perhaps to Clear Channel, which could do something to it).

See below ("Armchair Quarterbacks")

Okay, you know which of you were right and which of you were wrong.

I've decided I won't publish my list, but the next time one of you who predicted Flash was dead and Bob would stay makes another prediction, I reserve the right to bring this up.

Street cred, you know.

(I would have predicted Flash would survive, BTW, but it was much more fun watching all of you fall all over each other.)

It still doesn't explain why it took 4 days to count the votes. But at least it's nice that people got to keep their jobs and we have some "personality" on the air.

First, Flash...Soon, JACK?

OK, so part one is in effect - though it really wasn't in doubt after someone stumbled on the flash921.com domain registration, eh? :D

Now, when does Infinity drop the hammer on "Howard" and turn it into "93.7 JACK FM"? Remember, they already have one "JACK FM" with Howard Stern in morning drive...the former FM talker WBUF/92.9 in Buffalo.

Maybe Entercom might blow up KWOD (a KCNL-type station) in favour of Charlie and leave Howard as our only alternative station.
Edited by PassDutch on 08/02/05 01:46 AM.

Yeah, I lucked into finding it the very morning it had been registered. First Broadcasting is lucky that it didn't get cybersquatted from underneath them with how the "voting" promotion was being handled (where it was telegraphed that Flash was moving to 92.1 -- no way you'd do something like that and then NOT move Flash there).

The decision itself still puzzles me. Looking at the 12+ numbers, it appears that Flash hit a free-fall from Spring '04 to Spring '05. It's not like Bob was tearing it up either, but it was on a serious rimshot and it also had competition from Flash (an 80s station is the biggest Variety Hits blocker -- which is in part why the format is not on yet in Houston, Tampa, etc.)

It's not like this change should've caught anyone in the market by surprise. The door is wide open now for any potential takers... KHWD will need to be rebranded anyway soon, but there are all sorts of factors (ad revenue, etc.) that I don't know to be able to speculate what might happen. Though those 12+ numbers don't look very good (and yes, I know how little those numbers matter, but when Stern finally goes... then what will happen to the ratings?!?)

If Jack showed up on 93.7 (KWHD), it wouldn't surprise me.
______________

I've tried listening online (from three different computers via two different internet connections), and I've not been able to get KBDB-FM to play online for me. It's just silence now.
______________

A lot of it depends on when Infinity expects to be done with Howard Stern over the air. Stern himself has said he expects to be pulled off the air by Fall, saying Infinity can't sell the numbers his show would get in that book, because he won't be there after January. I haven't heard anything about this since Stern said it himself on the air.

If his prediction is correct...

> If Jack showed up on 93.7 (KWHD), it wouldn't surprise me.

...then nothing would stop Infinity from blowing up the "Howard 93.7" alt-rock format. They may just be waiting until they don't have to position around Stern.

Steve Woods and Staci Anderson are great, but is it really Flash without Kieth Brooks? Where is he? Is he still on the First payroll? Anyone know?

Re: See below ("Armchair Quarterbacks")

It was kinda fun just sitting back and reading all the speculations, armchair quarterbacking, etc. I was in the middle of the whole thing, knew about it for weeks, and couldn't say a word...
