Flash Comm FC2 Digital RDS Controller

I have come across a couple of Flash Comm FC2 Digital RDS Controllers. They appear to have been part of an old paging system, but they have since been removed and put on the shelf. Does anybody still use one of these? I found some sort of PDF manual, but it just explains how to hook it up, not how to program it.

Any info, manual, software would be a huge help!

I had one of those at a station in the 90's. It was used as part of a 57khz system to send data to truck drivers and also did the RDS display for the radio station. At the time, the only way to update it was via a website which then sent the update in via satellite. The system used 10% injection. I have no idea if it is of any use without it's presumably now defunct support system or not.

I've got some info on the units, you can hack them and get some functions working on them. PM me with your email and I will send you the info I have.

Hey, if anyone has any information on this unit, I am interested. I seem to recall somehow needing to connect to DTE4 with a crossover cable, then sending some line breaks to interrupt it's normal boot...or something. Any info anyone has on this thing would be useful, even the appropriate baud rate, stop bits, parity, data bits, flow control, etc.

Many thanks!

Bob on the Job is 100% right on this. I ran a station that had one. I think there was a way to put a static RDS display on without the defunct support, but the system was partially backed by Harris. They may be able to shed some light on the unit(s)

Bob on the Job is indeed 100% right on this and I have seen a few of these units still in service. I am quite sure there is a way to modify the settings somehow. I, at one time, made some notes on it -of course I cannot find them now. I reckon the thing is worth keeping if I can figure out how to program it. ???
