How many stations have shows that run 80's/early 90's track? And what times do they do it or do they just run random 80's/early 90's songs
And not backtracks USA - that show is okay -
WRVQ (Q 94) in Richmond, VA run Flashback Friday from 6am-8pm and mix it with today's CHR (expect from 5p-8p withe the "Flashback Extended Free Ride" which is all flashbacks
So you could easily here a Madonna's 80 track followed by Rob Thomas and then into Bruce Springsteen then Kelly Clarkson into Simple Minds, into 50 Cent, into Phil Collins, etc
I love that mix of music, my ears stay on the radio all day ( I wish they did all day, or at least all weekend). If it was ran all weekend kids and parents might like the same station, and not have a radio war in the car with the kids wanting CHR and Parents wanting AC!
Plus, you never know what u r going to hear, and the repeption is alot less, meaning you won't hear Rob Thomas "Lonely No More", 3 Doors Down "Let Me Go" and Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" as well as other tracks that get played every freakin 2 hrs. That is why songs get old real quick and ummm BORING, cause you hear em every 2 hrs. I hate listening to the same songs 2 to 3 hrs later, 4 or 5 is okay, but 5 to 6 is best! After 2 hrs it is time to turn the radio off.
Plus throwing in old school tracks (maybe 1 to 3 an hour) could open CHR to a bigger audience take out some of the AC audience. Of course at night when younger kids will be listening I would not have 3 80's tarck in the mix an hour, maybe 1 or none.
But my point it would make CHR radio more fun, a reason to listen and stayed tuned (not turn it off like me, lol). Which is what Bob/Jack format is trying to do, but they go for a older audience (30 and higher) which is why 70's is in the mix
But CHR playing 80's/early 90's mixed with today will stay grab the same audience (12-35) but maybe even alittle older. I mean I am 21 and love CHR (and looking for a job/career in it and radio) but also love 80's ( I was born then!) and do not want to listen to AC stations that play 70's also and too much slow crap, but I also want to hear 50 CEnt, Lil Jon, mixed w/ my 80's/early 90's. Why can't we play Will Smith's new song and old Jazzy Jeff songs? Old Mariah and new Mariah? Old Madonna and new one (whenever she comes back).
Does anyone else feel this way or I am alone?
Jon
