FLIP ON THE SUMMER A/C

So with Clear Channel out of the AC arena for a while now, is it time to start a discussion as to who may be itching to go after some of those B98.5 shares? I mean they're poised to maybe hit a 5.5 12+ when the winter numbers hit next week, and that would mean amazing adult numbers that you would think would have some other GM's and sales managers foaming at the mouth.

I can't see really 99X doing anything, even though Cumulus can't be thrilled with the race to a 1.5.
Maybe DAVE FM could if they win that particular race. Falcons then to V103?

Or maybe its time for STAR to just get over the soccer mom top 40 thing and just take themselves over the edge (not ledge)
or maybe KICKS country sister could make pre-empt one of those other guys and flip this spring or summer.

It seems this next book could really push someone in atlanata to take a serious look at making a move even though it looks like B98.5 would be impossible to take down completely.

After the recent shuffle at Clear Channel, none of their stations will switch to AC with the exception that 96.7 will remain.

All of the Cox stations are doing well and they definitely would not compete against themselves. You can also exclude all of the urban stations.

I doubt 99X would change as the new owners just signed the morning show and are heavily promoting the station.

This seems like a good opportunity for Star to tweak their format a little to cater to the AC/Hot AC crowd. Eagle could be a likely candidate but they also have heritage. They need more direction instead of an all out format change. We'll know more when the numbers are released but the Bull may have sealed Eagles fate. The same is true with Dave but this is also a good opportunity for them to cater to the AC crowd. They could easily do this with a AAA slant or do a format similar to 96.7 which is more of a Jack style of the AC format.

Someone will flip to AC. Atlanta sustained 2 AC's for 27 years.

My money says 99X is the next to flip.

I would love for CBS to flip 92.9 to AC. KVIL in Dallas appears to be perfectly programmed. Also, they are making waves with WWFS "Fresh" in New York, which is programmed for the younger end of the demographic.

I don't think Star will be doing anything soon. Eagle might flip, but I see 99X as the next station to go.

Lite FM is on 96.7 to prop up the sale price of the station as part of the saleto the private equity group. I wish CC would put Lite on 105.3 or 105.7 to replace one of the Hispanic stations (namely Viva because El Patron caters to Mexicans...which is the majority of the Spanish-speaking population in the area). But I don't see that happening, because we all know CC has the compentcy of a clucking chicken.

That has been tried before...and failed (Re: 97.1 Jamz)

I doubt 99X would change as the new owners just signed the morning show and are heavily promoting the station.

That is because they are trying hard (although with not enough credit) to save the station. Heavy advertising and changes are a classic sign of a dying station (Re: Fox 97)

If anyone comes in, has a good variety (400+ songs on the playlist at once), adds a steady diet of currents on a regular basis, and has an overall feel of a traditional AC that Atlanta has never had, WSB-FM will be the one out of business.

I think if Cumulus flips 99x to some type of AC, it would be a great complement for Q100's younger audience and they would probably pull in some of STARS adult numbers if it was done right. I suppose they'd have to buy out some contracts that would hurt some, but if they think long term, a successfull AC would really be worth paying off most of those contracts.

And if X goes AC, would that in effect bail out DAVE-FM by allowing them to go Alternative? There would be some pretty good talent available to get staffed up real quick too. Not sure about the DAVE FM deejays, but some of the best from 99x could sound good inside a new building and maybe do more than a 1.6 that X is showing

OR... if DAVE goes AC, then 99x could become some type of hybrid DAVE/X sounding station.

OR if EAGLE flips, then both X and DAVE are screwed...again.

Really who are some of the best personalities on 99x? Maybe Axel and Steve? They probably wouldn't want to go young enough to include Dekker. Steve is ok but I will take Mara any day for lunch time. Move Mara to mornings and you might have a fit for Steve. Axel would be fine for Afternoons.
