Florence Henderson, 'Brady Bunch' matriarch, dead at 82

Florence Henderson, best known for her iconic role as matriarch Carol Brady on The Brady Bunch, has died. She was 82.

The actress died surrounded by family and friends, her manager, Kayla Pressman, said in a statement to the AP late Thursday. The cause of death was heart failure.

In addition to The Brady Bunch, which ran from 1969 to 1974, Henderson appeared in offshoots The Brady Bunch Hour (1977), The Brady Brides (1981), The Bradys (1990) and the TV movie A Very Brady Christmas (1988). She also made a cameo in 1995’s The Brady Bunch Movie as the mother of Shelley Long’s Carol.

Henderson gained renewed fame in 2010 when she joined the Season 11 cast of Dancing with the Stars. She even appeared at Monday’s taping to support TV daughter Maureen McCormick, who is a contestant on the show’s current 23rd season.

I have been a long time fan of "The Brady Bunch," and she was the best reason to watch 117 episodes. A true talent and classic entertainer. She'll be truly missed.

Definitely one out of left field. RIP Florence. Condolences to her family, friends, and life-long buddies from The Brady Bunch, and from her movies.

This is really sad news. I discovered the show during its second season and later saw the first season in syndicated reruns. And she has done so much good work in recent years.
