The management at Urban Radio Communications apparently had to wait for final approval of the sale from FCC before officially taking over.

Urban has been running these stations since just after the first of the year. The first order of business post-CC was to flip 103.5 from AC to Urban in late winter. Amazingly, they are still running jockless and have been recycling the same 3 or 4 jingle packages over again. Kinda makes me wonder if they will ever add personalities and promotions. Also, there has been precious little local advertising. A Urban adult/ hip-hop station is what we have been missing here in the Shoals for a while, but up until now it has been running bargain basement.

I have read recently that Urban Radio Group has secured a new financing stream. Could be that the sale from CC was contingent upon Urban obtaining this money stream.

Has another station in the area filled the AC void since 103.5 went urban?

Also, what are the new formats for WLAY-AM/FM and WVNA-AM/FM?

Technically WQLT is AC and has been #1 in the market for several years now... it does have kind of a "Jack" thing going for it, but officially it is an AC Station.

About the AM's, WLAY was all-sports until April fools day, when it went to a satellite-based oldies format. Guess it was cheaper than Paul Finebaum and Jim Rome. WVNA remains talk.

I actually enjoyed listening to WVNA-AM when I lived there, even though I worked "across town". They had a great syndicated lineup with Glenn Beck in the mornings, Rush Middays, and Dave Ramsey afternoons... Could have only been better if they would have had Hannity instead of Ramsey, thogh I enjoyed his program too.

So, the Shoals region is without a sports station now. Maybe WSBM can fill that void, especially now that its parent company, Big River Broadcasting, has the rights to University of North Alabama sports, with WSBM broadcasting the UNA men's basketball games.

My sources are telling me they are dropping "The Touch" sattellite format on WSBM and going Adult R&B. Possibly using Issac Hayes for VO's.

Are they going live and local?

If I recall the conversation correctly they will be automating it with no talent, but it will not be a satellite format.

Sounds like they may be headed slowly back in the "Live and Local" direction.

The Shoals still has a sports talker. 93.9 WYTK. They are an ESPN affiliate, but they also program the Sonny and Wimp Show and the Herb Winches show out of B'ham. WYTK's lineup is O.K, but I liked WLAY's programming better (especially Jim Rome).

Sorry about that. Wasn't even paying attention.
