Floyd Wright on Lite 100.5

DRCFAN

Guest
Heard Floyd Wright on Lite 100.5 WRCH this afternoon. He said he was filling in for Bill Rap. Is this going to be a regular station for him? Have not heard him since he left Country 92.5.

Floyd Wright is a very talented jock. Why he settles for part time work on snoozin' 100.5 is a disgrace. Just another jock shyt canned because of the corporate bottom line. 20 years at Shytkickin' 92.5 and he gets the door.
Wonder how PD. Pete Salant felt about giving an old broadcasting buddy the
cowboy boot in the ass?

Floyd was probably making too much money at 'YZ to fit Cheap Channel's budget. He was excellent on that station.

As an aside, it's interesting to note that since WDRC improved their audio, WWYZ has now assumed the status of Worst-sounding FM station in the Hartford Market. The audio is flat and lifeless, and has been for years. WRCH runs a close second. Sigh...

If the audio of those two stations were that messy why would they be rated so high and doing so well? WRCH always getting #1 or #2 and WWYZ getting 3rd or 4th right behind Hot 93.7

The average listener doesn't care about audio quality, especially on FM, where the only thing that matters is that EVERY station on that band sounds better than AM. DRC-FM sounds great these days, but it's not going to jump to No. 1 or No. 2 in the next book because of that; indeed, it may not jump at all.

Additionally, WRCH is a popular "listen at work"/"listen while getting the kids ready for school" station, generating big Arbitron numbers among listeners who most likely aren't listening on a top-quality audio system.

When DRC-FM sounded bad it could be heard loud and clear. Many people heard that they didn't sound good. Thats the first time I hear WRCH and WWYZ have bad audio. Also my mom listens to WRCH and she has a Bose and I can't tell anything wrong about the sound when I come to visit. Sounds like the same WRCH thats been on 100.5 since I could remember.

Bose - Better Marketing Through Research

Ken, With all due respect, you don't know what the hell you are talking about.

First of all, 'loud and clear' has nothing to do with sound quality. A CB radio can be 'loud and clear' and still sound like the bullhorn in the gardening department of your local Home Depot or WalMart.

Second of all, Bose is nothing more than overpriced, over-marketed plastic GARBAGE. So if you want to tell me that because your mom has a Blows system, that you have objectively and subjectively listened to ANY radio station on a high quality system, you are SADLY mistaken.

If you think Bose is anything to write home about, you are sadly mistaken. It's crap. Buy yourself a nice Magnum Dynalab tuner, A decent roof mounted directional antenna, a rotor, a decent pair of amps like the Hafler TransNova P- series, and a nice pair of JBL 4315 or 4345. And maybe educate yourself about audio processing and grow yourself a set of ears.

Although I agree that most people don't pay that much attention, I stand by my statements above. WWYZ and WRCH are the top two worst performing stations, audio-wise, of all major signals in the Hartford market.

BOSE= Buy Other Superior Equipment.

I'm glad Floyd is working, cuz he's a real good guy...As far as his on air style, I never quite got him...A little too "announcer-y" for me... I never get the feeling he's talking to me, but more he's making announcements at the state fair...But obviously it has worked for him for many years, so good for him..

Alan Fletcher, [EDIT]..I wonder, do you often sprain your ankle whenever it is you come down off that high horse you sit on ? Not everyone possesses, or cares to, your superior tech/audio knowledge..Get over yourself..If the kid likes the Bose, so be it..I love the way you start your post with "with all due respect"..Another way to say "f" you...Then you proceed to rip him apart..Feel better about yourself? Why don't you speak to the folks on this board the way you would if you were face to face and not be quite so condescending.

[EDIT-namecalling]

Hey Jordan....

I didn't rip him apart. I simply corrected him where he was wrong, both on the audio quality of those two stations, and the quality of BOSE.

Get a grip dude, there's no need for name calling and insults, and if there was, they should have come from him. Not you. Get a life dude.

I feel a jock as talented as Floyd is shouldn't have to grovel for a job with his experience at his age. I know for a fact that he has a superior broadcasting education having graduated from Emerson College in Boston with a degree in broadcasting.
He could easily replace Joe Hann at blight 100.5. Will that ever happen NO! Radio political science 101.

Lite 100.5 used to pride itself on being live 24/7. A few years ago an Acct Exec was selling weekend dayparts and said that uptheriver 105.9 was voice tracked on weekends and RCH was not. Turns out RCH is on Sat from 10a-7p or whenever sappy love songs at night start. You could voice track that station after morning drive and no one would know the difference.

I think WWYZ is voice tracked in the midday M-F 10a-2p?????

Voice-tracking sure does save corporate on the payroll side $$$$$$
