Has everyone heard......Z97 will be at flubbs Saturday night doing a remote that i heard they got paid for......
Wait I can see it now....... Everyone in the market knows that Flubbs on a saturday night is hammered with 18- 25 year old people. I can hear Z97 now on the air waves.... LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE WE GOT TO GO TO FLUBBS ON SATURDAY....... I can't wait for them to say that....guys their already there. Of course Z97 wouldn't do the smart thing and tell tjhe owner that "well you know saturdays are huge here lets get people here on FridayS AS WELL DO A REMOTE FRIDAY" These are sales people?? Consultants if you will!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA Please Z say it say that you got everyone there....show pictures on your web site.... go ahead, make a fool of yourselves AGAIN. tHEY SHOULD HAVE PAID FLUBBS TO BE THERE SATURDAY!!!!!!! THATS THE TRUTH WITH SOME CHEESE ON IT!!!!!

Money well spent, ummmmmmNOPE. Someone should tell the owner of Flubbs, he wouldve been better off paying a Castleton student(or Castleton professor) $20 to walk up and down Route 4 with a sign..."come show us your shamrock" instead of asking a bad radio station to come there. I know people will be lining up to see ALL the Z97 dj's...ALL 2 OF THEM!!! I agree Bill,on saturdays flubbs is always packed, and like every saturday, I will be there...only this time, I'll be there laughing and pointing...Wonder if I can grab a slow dance with the bear and the bear cub! Cheese pizza for me, just plain cheesy for Pamal

the owner got scre---. Does he realize that he spent whatever amount he did for Z97 to use him and his busy saturday night, to promote themselves and not the client!!!!!! Like I said, they should have paid him the money so they could be there.

Just a little FYI for you wannabe's on here...a couple of those "Rookie" DJ's from Z just happens to be a Castleton grads who studied under THE GREAT HOUDINI :-* Nice try though poon and doc ::) The truth of the matter is this...there a great things happening and you just missed the boat :-* The Phantom knows where it's at, welcome aboard my man!! NUFF SAID, THIS CLASS IS DISMISSED

A grad of yours? well that explains it. Hasn't the z listeners (if there are any left) been through enough without listening to grads of the out-dated. Missed the boat??? Actually, I jumped on a long time ago and sailed away thank god!!! its people like you teaching these jocks and making the broadcast world FALL!!!! Time for you to jump on the boat. Durring the next "noricane" or "storm of the century" (lol) ride the wind back to school and get taught again. What a joke that was!!!!!!!!!!!

Flubbs will be a success because of the great work and promotion done by the staff you can't help but beat down. How horrible is your job that you can't get behind a great idea once in a while? Why is it that only the DJs have to carry the load for the whining sales staff? SHOW UP! Have some fun! Push the product with a little excitement and you'll see the wonderful results!

You guys talk about the owner of Flubbs like he's an idiot! He knows what happening and when to get on board the mighty giant that is Z-97! All of you haters can just watch the cruise ship float on by as you whine about the color of the aft. Watch out for the wake. Those of us who believe will be in the front enjoying the sunrise!

Finally! Z-97 is doing something a CHR SHOULD be doing! Isn't this what everyone has wanted? For once in your miserable careers, get on board! You can run the cash register at K-mart or, for the same money, you can take pride in your work and be part of something HUGE!

Zeeeeee Future is here!

Ok Ed..I mean Phantom, can you hook up these clearly unhappy employees with a job at The Chopper? It could make a good team..they can run the register, and you can move up from stocking shelves to bagging...At any rate, you are right, any GOOD CHR should be all up in the mug of places where their P1s would gather. Flubs, the mountain, wherever.

It isn't always about bringing more people into an establishment. Sometimes, there is a mutual benifit to the station and the client. If every Saturday, a station personality (or lack there of) is in front of 1000 people, it is NEVER a bad thing. You never know if 1 in the thousand have a dairy.

The problem is, however, that if you are going to send out a rep for the station, that talent should be a part of that demo. Sending out an old tired jock, or a prude doesn't help the cause much when you are trying to create a "fun" inviornment.

For years, the Z has toiled, and not taken advantage of the possible place in the market. Both as a powerhouse party station, but a powerful tool for the community.

The bottom line here is that Ed is right. It is a start, although there is a LARGE chance it will fail if they don't pick the right host for the evening, but a start none the less...

Having done more than a thousand of these during my radio lifetime...I can honestly say that a live remote is much more difficult than doing a show inside a studio with the door closed!

Reason being...during a live remote broadcast, an on-air personality is required to look neat (and avoid the normal t-shirt and jeans that have at least one or 2 recognizable holes in them. He (or she) has to put on a good face while customers or by-passers stop by and indicate that they listen to another radio station. And of course there's the elderly woman who wants to know which grocery aisle has the Crisco shortening! Not to mention an occasional smart-a** who wants you to play a rap, alternative or heavy metal tune when your format happens to be AC, country or classic oldies!

And in every instance the only thing an air personality can do is SMILE at the customers! ;D

use-to-be that so long as they got the call letters right, it didn't much matter who did what.

but from what i know of the "U/V" - many, many people are in dairy, right? i mean, i have a job with benifits and i am concerned about the invironment...

okay - not for nothing - but a simple call-to-attention here:

kids - and you have got to be kids with spelling like that - grow up. comb your hair. take a shower. move out of mom & dad's basement.

you want to act like adults. you want to tell people such as Argy and me and whoever to "move on and get with the times" or get out of the way....

okay, gang - you want the keys to the car? learn how to spell. if you are "the next gen" ready to take over my chosen profession - then for God's sake (he/she/it) - remember all of that stuff that those "old" people in school tried to teach you. like spelling. or how to use a dictionary.

for Managing Board Ed: please - please - please - DO NOT MOVE THIS POST to "Take It Outside?" There are those of us in broadcasting with more than a few minutes of experience that are unable to "move ahead" thanks (in no small part) to the "next big thing" being in a position to better serve a listening audience, and sadly - that next big thing can not even take the time to proof their incredible butchering of the English language.

i realize this forum is designed to be somewhat informal in nature, but when the off-spring of broadcast legends (example: the late Jess Cain) swing by to post their thanks to fellow "working professionals" for kind thoughts during their family member's illness or passing - remember: YOU are writing in a public forum. YOU are presenting yourself as a potentially knowledgeable (in this case) broadcaster. Sweet Lord in Heaven Above - leave the LOL's and the ROFLPMPLMAO's in the hallway or in the chat room. Have a little pride here.

for the A/E who was able to sell a remote to an establishment for a night on which said establishment does not really need a remote - GOD BLESS YOU! You are a TRUE salesperson. Radio needs more of you. I would be willing to bet that the A/E who sold this remote has either no interest in TapScan, or even how to use it. The Client was not "scre--d." The Client was sold and the deal was sealed. More power to the original mass-media "Theater of The Mind"

I will never understand the d.j.'s who complains they are not respected, dislike remotes, dealing with the public (potential listeners) and show up for work in jeans and a station tee-shirt.

These are the same people who want to be treated as a professionals.
If you want to be one, look and act like one.

When it comes to dress at remotes, I believe in the "when in Rome" philosophy. If you were to send a rock jock to a remote at a metal show at a club in a polo shirt and khaki's, they'd get their @ss kicked. At the same time, send the same jock to a remote at a car dealership (which are the WORST places for remotes, but I digress), I wouldn't send them in a tee-shirt and jeans.

Couple things.....1st Argytunes ive heard your remotes and have been at them im sure.....you are right! You are better in a locked studio...Be personally I like the spot lite and love doing remotes! Heck Im @ a remote right now and have got 3 this weekend!
2nd I'm at a bar right now doing a remote and currently wear jean and a station polo shirt....that is the requirement for this event! There are some events were the client my request it most don't...My stations policy says car lots, casino, ice palace and other places of business we wear a polo station logo'ed shirt and new blue or black Jeans 501's if possible...just kidding about he 501 bit! if not asked otherwise! Now tomorrow Im at a drag racing event, I will wear a station t-shirt and shorts....cause I can!!
3rd: 12 in a row voiced this, I respect you at times on here, but the as you said " eave the LOL's and the ROFLPMPLMAO's in the hallway or in the chat room. Have a little pride here." While Im inclined to agree with you, its the times we live in!! Sorry....its just that as much as i would love to live in the past on a daily basics. I can't Yeah my girlfriends kids use that terms almost everytime one of them opens their mouth! If I say the full word or meaning they look at me and do the "loser" sign with their hand on their forehead! I was laughing at a fresh new co worker straight out of radio college.....he said that he was the best audio editor around and could whip my butt! So after setting up the terms of the little bet and him agreeing to let me pick the "software for editing" I looked him and okay ...your mine!!! Took him into a studio that had 2 apex Reel to Reels and said you agreed to let me pick the software right? Hey agreed and I looked at him and said as I pointed to the reel to reel here you go...this is your editing software knock yourself out!! I left laughing out loud!!!!

Butters...

You left out the M in AMPEX when you were referencing the reel-to-reel tape decks.

With live remotes...I didn't have a problem doing them! The only major problem was when I was broadcasting inside a store where I didn't know where all the grocery items (or hardware) were located. Usually, the questions came 30 seconds before a song was about to end and I had the choice of trying to find a store salesperson...or putting the interested customer "on hold" when I was about to do my live break prior to a stopset! :p

Hey people...here's an idea...STICK TO THE TOPIC OF THE POST!!! This started off with Z97 at Flubbs, now you're talking about t shirts at a car wash....Thanks....Who will be the first on this thread to talk about razor burn , or which Ginzu knife they like the best

Erie...

Arnold Poon must be having a bad day? I don't think he liked reading your post? Or some of your comments about spelling and grammatical errors hit too close to home!

Most over used phases at a radio remote:

"Stop on by"

Sure, I'm going to drive out of my way see you in your outfit designed by the fine folks at Best Buy.
(Polo Shirt and Khakis)

If I'm lucky, you'll give me a bumper sticker or let me spin the wheel.
I might win a 10 dollar car wash!!!

"We're having a GREAT time"
Yeah, right. You're trying to convince me it's COOL being at a place that sells double wides, good used cars, sleazy bars and the rest.

I never got the commercial radio remote thing.
Sure, it brings in some dough and the talent gets a tiny bone, but how does it sound?
Does it work for the client?

How bout taking that extra buy and putting it into MORE commercials, a special campaign?

Appearences at major events work. Client radio remotes are silly and painful to listen to.

We wonder why we're the Rodney Dangerfield of the media.

Imagine watching TV, they go "LIVE" on the scene and you can barely see or hear the reporter.
Imagine picking up a newspaper and the pictures are black & white and the print is smeared.

TV is sound with pictures.
99% of the time it's crystal clear.

Newspaper is pictures and print. Same as above.

Radio is ONLY sound, but some will allow crappy cell phones on the air.
(Excuses include, it saves money, we can't get a regular signal out.)

If you're going to be on remote do it only with studio quality sound and ONLY when it makes sense.

OK---I'm dreamin'
