Well,...my lower anatomy is quite sore, since the beast of burden sprouted wings, and took flight.
As I sit here on this donut cushion, wonderin' why I past-up the epideril, I clearly have to realize that...Yep,...Bob Jones University has actually sold WMUU-FM. What was once the FM that paired with 1440-AM, was allegedly given to the institute of higher learning because the owner could not pay the power bill. The Salem group has netted it for reportedly 3-Mil, and allegedly "Christian Talk" is the format forcast. However, I am going on record that Salem will sell it within 5-years.
With a hardy YEAH...for disaray, 96.7 FM is now on the air attempting to make ROQ sweat; more on that later.....aaaaaand it just Shickles the Tit outta me that Cox is leaving the market. #1) We finally get rid of that Awww-ful noise known as Hot 98. #2) Currently, the bean counters of both Entercom, and Clear Channel are constipatting on just how to acquire that Smoke Blowin' Thermal Nucleee-er Bast Furnace known as 107.3 FM. New owners, hopefully a new format, and begone all ye weighted Arbitron mess. Think about it! No format is safe, with 107.3 pending.
 
Not a fan of 98.1 here either. Much prefer 93.7, 95.1, and 96.1. In Ga, Cox flipped the similar formatted 95.5 to an FM talk simulcast of WSB, with Neal Boortz and Clark Howard. Wish they had done something like that here. But now hopefully some other better improvement will eventually happen.
 
Neither Clear Channel nor Entercom are going to buy Cox's stations. Entercom is maxed out. Clear Channel can only add one station, and they aren't going to just sell one.

I don't like Hot 98.1, either. I wish it sounded like Power 100.1 in Athens, Hot 101.5 in Tampa, or Hot 100.9 in Richmond (all Cox). More of a mainstream CHR sound as opposed to Hot's Rhythmic CHR, a format which seems to be declining in popularity in a lot of markets.

I also have thought Salem may flop with talk on 94.5 and sell it after several years.

Was that a correction, or was he just trying to underbid you?

Some, but not all of the information, regarding this Post, was alleged from those in or were in the Biz. I took it in good faith that it was correct. Alotta Engineers are Radio history buffs, and maybe these are questions for Don Goins, Don Crain, Ted McCall or Jim Graham.
1440-AM, at one time, had a paired FM, and I was told that it was allegedly given to Bob Jones University because the owner could not pay the power bill. This alleges that WMUU-FM was that FM, and the same one that Salem just purchased for 3-Million bucks!
 
AM 1440 was paired with 100.5 WSSL within the past 20-25 years, because I remember a legal ID that went something like, "WSSL, Greenville; WSSL-FM Gray Court, Greenville" that was crammed between two spots. AM 1440 was likely paired with another FM prior to this, but with whom I do not know.

To me, I felt that I had worded my history hunt in a manner that would easily render an answer, more than likely coming from a Broadcast Engineer. I never prodded for similcasts, and/or association by ownership. If I knew the correct answer, this topic would not be still...yet...rolling on. *So, 1440-AM, prior to being WQOK, was allegedly paired with an FM. What was that FM?
 
1440 was never paired with an FM to my knowledge. I've been told that they wanted to buy an FM when things started going to FM (94.5) but nothing ever materialized. 1440 eventually went silent (I guess they couldn't keep up with WANS since they were AM-only) for a while before coming back on air in the mid-80s.

100.5 was WLBG-FM in to the early 80s? then WGXL-FM in the 80s prior to WSSL-FM. WLBG continues on at 860 AM in Laurens, SC.
