Flying Solo

With so many local TV stations battling it out at 10pm with duel anchors, why doesn't one of them go solo? Nurse Jeff and I thought Katy Raml did a solid job on ABC15 when Steve Irvin was out. And Troy Hayden didn't miss a beat without co-anchor Isis Romero on FOX10. (come to think of it, the 10 o'clock news would be a lot better without Isis' constant flubs and wardrobe issues). And while the Nurse and I are offering complimentary sage advise, why doesn't one of the stations put Sports between News and Weather? We think Sports is a lot more interesting and important than forecasting more sun and high temperatures!

And I'd think the same would be true at 12 if Mark Curtis were to be without Lin Sue Cooney for a night. It maybe would make their weeknight news watchable for once.

I don't know why they all try to copy #1. If I was last in the ratings, I would drop sports, and get either more local news, or add an extended business news section. Not everybody in the valley is preoccupied with sports. Last week, if you left out the super bowl propaganda, we had 10 minutes of news per news show. (Or less).

The Nurse and I keep coming back to this solo idea. ABC15 could turn a few heads by leaving Katy Raml in the anchor chair and sending Steve Irvin on location. Everytime he gets out in the field we are blown away by his resemblence to Peter Jennings and just how solid a reporter he is. Time to bust a move and shake things up.

Ah hemmmmmmmmm - Steve Irwin?! The guy looks like a Jim Henson muppet! Even sounds a little like Kermit too! That guy's one of the many weak links at KNXV. Every time I see him on the tube I wanna stick my hand into his mouth and help him speak.

Gotta agree -- ain't nothing going to turn that station around with the talent they have. Irwin was barely registering a ratings pulse before for 3+ years in their am. No one takes them seriously.

Hey Doc: Someone been tamperin' with your hookah? What the heck are you smoking these days?

I've got a better idea anyway. How about leaving Kermie perched in the anchor chair and sending Raml out on the road to do stories with her ridiculous Frito Bandido bandana on? (a la her SoCal fire interview getup) That would be good for some yucks at least. Particularly when she does a live remote from a bank or a school or police station or... well, anywhere.

RE the subject that America needs to know:

Maybe 15 is waiting for Jenn's hair to turn 50 shades back to blonde. Any still photo might be obsolete within 15 minutes.

Frankly, I don't think she can control it !
