FLZ changes

The revolving door of midday girls at FLZ continues to move. Plus another syndicated show is coming:

FROM FMQB: Big doings at CHR WFLZ/Tampa as Melissa Moran exits the MD/midday post leaving PD Tommy Chuck to handle MD responsibilities for the time being. Chuck now begins his search to fill the 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. shift. Also, the station will pick-up the syndicated On-Air With Ryan Seacrest beginning August 25. The show will air from 1-4 p.m.

Is putting on Seacrest a good move for this station? I don't think so. But I guess it's not much different than piping in Kane from D.C. and playing clips of his morning show during afternoon drive. ::)

The revolving door at Clear Channel needs to be greased up. The changes will continue, especially with the fourth quarter looming in a down economy (and a new ownership setup). September and October will be very very tough there.

Is putting on Seacrest a good move for this station?
It doeesn't matter if you or I think it's a good move. It's cost-cutting, Seacrest is popular, and I saw this coming as soon as Premiere announced the deal with him. I guess that leaves Big Rig as the only live midday guy in the building (watch your back, bro!), as radio sounds more and more vanilla than ever.

Meanwhile, down the hall from 93.3...
From All Access:

Sileo Inks Extension With Clear Channel
CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WFLF-A (540 WFLA)/ORLANDO and Sports WDAE-A (THE SPORTS ANIMAL)/TAMPA morning host DAN SILEO inks a multi-year extension to stay with the stations.

SILEO's show moved from sister Sports WQTM-A (740 THE TEAM)/ORLANDO to WFLF last DECEMBER when WQTM flipped to Spanish; he has been simulcasting on WDAE since 2004 and is also heard on sister Sports WNLS-A (1270 THE TEAM)/TALLAHASSEE.

Another example of "who you know" keeping this hack alive. The guy drops an f-bomb on the air yet the suits look the other way. I guess the world is unfair.

“On-Air with Ryan Seacrest” from 1- 4 pm.

AND .... Melissa Moran (midday drive) is gone. So, 10am-1pm is WIDE OPEN.

Anyone out there that can play a CD or two during that time slot and take phone calls?
Anyone interested?

I doubt very seriously they'll employ anyone else. Most likely voice tracked by someone already in house. My guess... the girl from Miami's Y-100 that was voice tracking Mix during the same shift. I think she lost her gig when they picked up John Tesh.

Well they've put an ad on AllAccess looking for a replacement.

why is melissa gone? my friends and I loved listening to her. anyword on who is going to take over? i hope it's another hip girl. best of luck to melissa!!!hopefully she gets on a better station!

Hold on... why would they have to? In fact usually the excuse for letting someone go is "the position has been eliminated."

So if they aren't going to replace it, why solicit?

And they don't have to advertise a job on AllAccess, they can put it on TampaJobs.com or something small...

I said they have to advertise the job opening because they legally have to have some sort of application process underway even though FLZ probably already has a successor in place. My money is on someone via voice-track or already in the building taking the shift.

Unfortunately most of the cutbacks we've seen have turned the application process in to a mere formality as opposed to an actual talent search. With the economy the way it is, and with Clear Channel's new ownership structure, do you really think they're going to spend $40K or $50K for a live personality in what is essentially the "throwaway" day part of their schedule? Especially for a three-hour airshift? I don't think so. They'll more than likely throw $5K for someone to record all the breaks from another market... or $10/hr to the first weekend jock in the building who wants more exposure.

Hey folks,

I got my Google alerts today and noticed this thread. Just wanted to give you the scoop directly from the guy making the decisions... Yes, the 10a-1p job at WFLZ is wide open. It is real. If anyone is interested, submit your stuff to [email protected]. The shift is currently being done in-house by Brian Fink. He will continue doing the shift until we make a hire who will start in November. The person we hire will also be eigther MD or assist in our promotions department (depending on skill-set).

So, there's the story. Feel free to email me anytime!
