FLZ on Sunday night...

I was listening to FLZ just as I was beginning work on Sunday night, but instead of the usual "Open House Party" with Kane, it was some lame call-in show about teen issues. I checked out their website, and turns out OHP is now 7-10, with Dawson McAllister live from 10p-midnight... ::) My only question is, why?

Yeah, that is kinda sad for such a nationally well-known *heritage* CHR. Out of towner CC management or suits probably had the final say on this one.

this is most likely the first sign that OHP will soon be history, it could be Kane is not going to resign with OHP when his contract is due, We have had some great FLZ memories and years of history but the sound will soon be like just some other CC top 40 station losing that amazing 93.3 FLZ sound.

Could be worse - could be "Delilah"...

I couldn't believe they were actually running that show when I turned on FLZ on Sunday night. I remember hearing it on WTBN 570 several months ago, and I think that station is much more appropriate for it. FLZ's too good to air a show like that, or so we thought.

The show is a proven ratings-getter apparantly.

There's lots of major market CHRs running the show as well; KISS/Dallas, HOT 995/DC, KDWB/Minneapolis, Channel 933/San Diego, KISS/Cleveland, XL1067/Orlando to name a few...not too shabby.

Either that or this is something crammed down the throats of CHR PD's in said markets by some corporate muckety-muck in San Antonio. Suffice to say (as mentioned earlier) the Sunday night version of OHP might be now on life support :(, and as a great man once said, this is an outrage...

radioAvenger?
You've completely missed the point!

Rush Limbaugh would probably get great ratings too, but that doesn't mean you put him on a Heritage CHR.
At what point do you sacrifice format for ratings? If that's what it comes down to, an owner should just give up on CHR and go home.

We run DM Live too... not forced by CC at all. Just compelling radio. For years, rock radio broke the format and ran "Loveline" - same thing essentially. But for CHR teens and young adults. It's a public service AND a ratings getter. Plus, it's not 5pm on a Friday.

I got to thinking about this the other night, and I can compare this to a VERY infamous moment in radio history. Remember the Casey Kasem Dead Dog Dedication? Remember exactly what it was that Casey was ranting about to his production staff (other than the pictures)? Isn't this almost the same thing??? You have up-tempo music and a party-like ambience, and right smack-dab in the middle of it, the party comes to a screetching halt by two hours of an emo-driven sap-fest. That's what me (and I suppose plenty of others) as listeners are thinking.
