I noticed that a new translator station is on the air at 106.3 in Lake County. The signal goes out alot farther than the FCC map indicates, probably because the station found a tall tower to rent space from.

Anyone notice the three strange-shaped, private towers along the west side of the Tri-State Tollway (Interstate 94), south of Belvidere Road (Illinois 120)? I don't know what the towers are normally used for, but apparently this translator is now on one of them. The property next to towers on Oplaine Road in Waukegan is a mosque, and there's a Greek Orthodox church on the other side of the street.
The new station (owned by Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa) is repeating 101.5 WLGS-LP Lake Villa (which is owned by Calvary Chapel of Lake Villa) without any ID for the Lake Bluff station. The format is automated Christian contemporary/rock (similar to Air One). Seems strange that 106.3's signal is stronger than the station it repeats.

There's another low-power translator station currently on the air from the same tower as WLGS-LP. That station is 89.1 W206AI Lake Villa which repeats 89.9 KAWZ Twin Falls, Idaho airing a religious format (but that one is owned by Calvary Chapel of Twin Falls).
I noticed that a license has been granted by the FCC for another station on the same tower as W262DJ (next to the mosque). That station is 99.9 W260BL Waukegan (also owned by Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa). I don't know the format because it's not on the air yet.

Seems odd that the FCC would allow this new one at 99.9 because there's already a low-power station on the same frequency not too far away in Antioch. That station is 99.9 WFEL-LP Antioch (owned by Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Antioch). That station sometimes airs secular programming (oldies, and old time radio).
