FM Bandscan - Kooskia, ID (10 August 2021)

A couple weeks ago, I went on vacation to Boise to visit family. But rather than going through Tri Cities and catching I-84, I took a long route - I went south/east toward Lewiston, east to Missoula, south to Challis, then to Stanley, Ketchum, Mountain Home (via US-20) and finally to Boise. After a few days in Boise, I took the typical I-84 to I-82/US-395 route back home.

Along my route, I recorded numerous bandscans (including three TV scans) - some of them at high elevation passes/summits. I did manage to divert off the main route and temporarily cross the Continental Divide - I did record a bandscan on the divide trail.

The first bandscan was done at Lewiston, although I'm not creating a post here because it wasn't very significant. I was in Lewiston on August 12 of last year, and the only change made was the addition of a 95.5 translator in Lewiston.

This is the second bandscan of the trip - recorded along US-12 just north of Kooskia, ID. This location doesn't seem favourable for DX, but I ended up receiving some pretty good tropo, including one across the divide.

Very nice and good to know what you can receive. I am considering a move to North Idaho after I graduate from CWU next summer (fewer taxes, smaller state, lots of outdoor opportunities). Probably somewhere close to the WA border, somewhere between Sandpoint and Lewiston. I do know that if I move into that core area between Rathdrum and Coeur D'Alene, my FM dial will be packed solid with translators and Spokane stations. We'll see how it goes...
