FM DX Log 8/14/2010

I spent a day on board the MV Caribou, a ferry that serves between Port aux Basques, NL and North Sydney, NS, and I picked up a few catches before the Sydney stations overtook nearly every frequency on my Sony Walkman with DX feature.

96.5 FM CKUL - Kool FM Halifax, NS (my personal second ever Halifax catch on FM)
96.9 FM CJXL - XL96.9 FM Moncton, NB (when at home, I normally pick up OZ FM)
98.9 FM CJFX - XFM Antigonish, NS (also picked up on 102.5)
100.3 FM CHTN - Ocean 100 Charlottetown, PEI
103.1 FM CJMO - C103 Moncton, NB
105.5 FM CKQK - K-Rock Charlottetown, PEI

Estimated distances??

Halifax would've been the furthest. From the half way point between Port aux Basques NL and North Sydney NS, the distance would be roughly 415KM/260 miles.

Newf', have you every tried for the FMs on St. Pierre and Miquelon? Other than being at Point May or at the terminus of route 360, the Port aux Basques ferry run would be a good opportunity.

As far as I know, I've never caught anything from the French Islands. My best catches from east of me would have to be on the AM band (like CHCM 740, best picked up in the car).

I just realized I had the date I was on the ferry wrong. It should've said August 16 not 14.

What's the farthest AM station you've ever picked up in NF? Something from the U.S. at night? Does 740 Toronto ever come in?
