I am curious to know. Would it be easier to DX an FM station during a tropo even if it had MORE wattage and LEES height vs MORE height and LESS wattage? Thanks.
 
Beyond 150 miles or so, ERP is what is most important. From SE Michigan for instance, WMBI 90.1 with 100000 watts, and WPWX 92.3 and WPPN 106.7 from the Chicago area with 50000 watts are easiest compared to the 6 kW or 8 kW stations from tall buildings. You just null out the stronger signals if you are far enough away, and in a direction you can null out.

When I lvied in NW Pennsylvania, 80 miles E/SE of Erie I had some Class A (6KW) and Class C3 (25kw) FM's from WI and MI on tropo....it matters more where then the atmospheric opening is coming from then power and height.. but a more powerful station sure helps.
