FM DX'ing from Southeast Texas

Thanks to those who answered my questions about DX'ing in Seattle. I'm now in SE Texas, which seems to be a tropo gold mine in the summer. I just spent some time in Galveston, and DX'd stations from San Antonio, Beaumont, and Corpus Christi. Is this normal? Or was I experiencing tropo? I thought San Antonio's distance might have indicated tropo.

SE Texas is a tropo goldmine for sure. I always look forward to the great spring and summer tropo when I travel there.

Your reception of San Antonio stations from Galveston was definitely tropo. In the last couple of weeks there has been great tropo in S.A. as well, and I logged Beaumont stations 91.3 KVLU and 94.1 KQXY over locals.

Are you in Texas for an extended time or just on a vacation?

Scott, if you can get out to one of the barrier islands on the Gulf, try daytime AM DXing!

I've never been to Texas but out on the Gulf here in central Florida on Honeymoon Island, I can hear AM stations in the daytime as far away as Texas.

Thanks for the info, gentlemen.

I am here on vacation, and now on South Padre. Despite being a Florida native, my Spanish is horrible. So I'm having trouble identifying some of the Mexican stations I've picked up. I picked up something on 97.7 yesterday that was clearly from Mexico.

I figured the San Antonio stations had to be Tropo. I picked up KJ 97 and 102.7 Jack FM from Stewart Beach in Galveston. The tropo seems very light right now.

I actually DX'd stations in Texas from Clearwater Beach back in 2006. The Houston stations were very strong that day.

Unfortunately, no time for any barrier islands. But I will try some AM DX'ing here.

Update: This really is a DX'ers paradise! I just recorded Minneapolis's 93X from the beach in South Padre. Classic e-skip opening. Stations are fading in and out at 15 second clips.
