FM Epiphany

I came out of a meeting near downtown in Coeur d'Alene, ID about 3 PM
today. Turned on the car radio as usual & heard a station I'd never previously heard with surprising strength: KFFM, Yakima, WA 107.3100kw @ 187 miles.
Immediately headed for the "lake" (Lake CdA) where reception is clear &
crisp and proceeded to hear 5 more new Washington state stations I'd never
heard before (all SW of here): (1500-1600 PST)
104.7 KKRV Wenatchee 6500 watts @ 164 miles
100.9 KARY Grandview 7800 watts @ 175 miles
96.7 KWWW Quincy 440 watts (!) @ 146 miles, very strong with "KW3"
ID several times
92.3 KULE Ephrata 26kw @ 137 miles
89.7 KWWS Walla Walla 3200 watts @ 136 miles
Best atmospheric conditions in 4 months I've lived here.

Fangio...
headed to CDA tomorrow for a long weekend with family:
is Hudson's Hamburgers on Sherman worth a visit, or is it hype.
will be DXing on the car radio...hope the rental is adequate!

Re Coeur d'Alene: Hudson's has been dishing hamburgers for over 100 years!
I don't eat meat any more but I hear Hudson's is still great.
You'll love DXING (even in the car) here. Best reception is BY THE LAKE.
If you take the drive around the East side (near I-90), there's very little QRM.
Hayden Lake is good too, esp FM! The Park @ Riverstone is good for car
DX, very little noise. Good luck!

Thanks...staying with family 9 blocks from the lake on Montana...headed that way shortly.
BTW: went to Hudson's yesterday afternoon (walked there snapping photos)...
best.
burger.
ever.
dinner @ Capone's tonight...them AM dx before it gets to cold to sit in the car!

Romer-
Been out & about twice today. Condx on AM & FM pretty lousy for here.
If you're able check 890 for CJDC in Northern BC (600 miles) at twilight.
Dunno where YOU live but Canadians POUR in here at dusk generally (AM).

fangio28, is KZZU 92.9 too strong? KDBL 92.9 Yakima is a possibility when the conditions are up, when out of KZZU's path.

crainbebo-
Yakima is about 190 miles from me. Have heard KFFM 107.3 ONCE.
No luck with 104.1 tho that is a clear channel here. KZZU blocks 92.9
as do all Spokane stations usually, 30 miles west of me.
Three quarters of my loggings are in the SW quadrant from here...
lower altitude, not much in the way of mountains between...up to just
under 200 miles, including three from Oregon.

Not surprised you got KFFM. They have a huge signal and I used to receive them regularly in Seattle before 107.3 came on the air in Victoria. KPQ 102.1 (Wenatchee) is another signal that gets out well, but it would be tough to get in between your locals on 101.9 and 102.3. They were an easy catch in Pullman, back in my college days.

sdradiohead...KPQ "the Quake"102.1 is heard daily squeezing between the locals, despite being 175 miles away. Still have only heard KFFM but once
on a day where condx were extraordinary and a clear frequency. ::)

KPQ 102.1 comes in here at around 90 miles, over the Cascades. It's HAAT isn't surprising to reach me however.

KXLE 95.3 Ellensburg is occasional here too at 101 miles, country format.
