Now,...before I get inta anything funny, let me say...Rumors Of My Death Are Greatly Exaggerated! Consultants, I am not only your Virus,...I am your Flu! Marv, hang-up my rain hat, and do something with this umbrella that I got from John Sez-hez-rich.
I'll need, a can of lysol, my black hat, black soapbox, and the red candles of Sumott. Standby for my Radio Flu story, from 1979. First off, and as I predicted back in September, the liberal TV Newscasts scared the crap outta everyone, so they bared a shoulder to one or more of the offered Flu shots. On Record: I WILL NOT TAKE ANY OF THE FLU SHOTS! So, how's some of these short, skeleton radio staffs holding-up, in the midst of Flu season? The hospitals are now full, as I predicted, and they are trying to keep it under wraps, as they present that all are hospitalized because they didn't take the shot. If you did a survey it would probably be 85% did, and 15% did not. I TOLD YOU SO! The hospitals are short staffed, as they are at home, with the Flu. Now, there's a keen grasp of the obvious, as it was manditory for them or loose their jobs. FM's today are really in a bind, if one or more is out sick. John called in sick,...so you'll have to do his airshift too. I thought that we fired him.
No, he's just sick. We fire Harry, after we gave him a free flu shot, and he's at home with the flu, and no insurance! Phil was coming in, but he too has it, so you'll have to do his production. Now, storytime with Uncle Scooter: Over my shoulder, at a backward glance, and the Fall of 1979. I was blessed to be part of the very first WANS-FM(CHR) Airstaff. Much like Greg Fowler's brilliant WKZQ,...for Upstate SC, we presented "The Hits",...for the first time...in Stereo! We were Live 24hrs., and there wasn't anything keeping us from the top...ratings & revenue. However, not even our boney little pencilneck consultant had factored in The Flu! Back then, we had to rely on the success or failure of our own immunity. Well, it hit, and three were out for days. I went in at 6pm on a Saturday night, and got off the FM at 6am. Walked accross the hall, and did another
6-hours on the AM. Then, I crashed at my girlfriend's apartment, and back on the FM Sunday night at 6pm, until 6am Monday morning,...Thankfully the Morning Drive guy was able to come in. Consultants, I'd like to see you top that!
Scooter Lesley.
