FM Frequency of the Week: 100.1

Tyler, TX:

Translator K261CW Tyler, a repeater of NTPB's Dallas NPR affiliate KERA. Solid signal.

North Iowa:
A blank frequency locally, though KUYY/Emmetsburg will occasionally come in on some days.

Central Kansas:
A blank frequency locally; I don’t believe I’ve ever picked anything up on it.

East Tennessee: Usually overrun from WCYQ, next door on 100.3, but I did get WNSY, Talking Rock, GA, part of a Smooth Jazz simulcast once on my "DX hill".

Hartland, VT:

WPNH Plymouth, NH, with a mix of active rock, classic rock and alternative. A longtime holdout when it comes to streaming, it's now just about the only station in the area that doesn't stream.

Meriden, CT:

Nothing.

Denver, CO - Nothing.

BUT!

The closest station on this channel is KRFD Fleming, CO, near Sterling in the northeast corner of the state. It's currently licensed as a C2 but FCC filings indicate that the station has suffered a number of issues in the past few years and has either been silent or running on STAs at low power. It acquired a CP to move to C1 but the station later made filings that stated:

However, despite substantial and best efforts, Licensee has not been able to implement a solution or workaround to overcome technical obstacles to
constructing a Class C1 signal at Tower 887 {18 miles away from Fleming} pursuant to the 2/16/2022 Construction Permit. Therefore, to achieve a 70dBu contour over City of License, Fleming, Colorado, Licensee has applied to move KRFD to a location within the City of License. That application (LMS File Number 0000242385) was filed 3/27/2024 and is currently pending.

That new CP application calls for an ERP of 250 watts on a short tower, a significant downgrade, and one unlikely to provide much coverage of Sterling.

I thought this was going to be a boring post but sometimes it pays to dig around a little bit.

Wilmington Delaware

Mostly splatter from next weeks' station WRNB Philadelphia on 100.3. However I've heard WBXB Edenton NC during TROPO.

Clifton, New Jersey

No nearby licensed stations, but I have been able to receive WJRZ-FM "100.1 WJRZ" Manahawkin, NJ during tropo.

Mankato, MN
nothing unless there is a warm front to the north of us. Then I might get KOLV in Olivia (Big Country)

UPDATE from Hartland, VT:

W261DJ Randolph, translator for 1320 WCVR Randolph, country/Americana mix, audible occasionally in the car at this location dueling with or overriding WPNH Plymouth, NH, dominating the frequency consistently a few miles north.

Central Kentucky:
WKQQ Lexington (COL Winchester) with a classic rock format.

WKQQ started out on the 98.1 frequency in Lexington in January 1975

Clear Channel, in the spring of 1998, chose to place WKQQ on the 100.1 frequency and place the new country WBUL on 98.1 with the larger signal.

This made many longtime WKQQ listeners irate (especially the listeners outside the Lexington metro) as the new frequency covered less area than the old 98.1 frequency.

There was a country format on 100.1 at the time of the swap: WWYC " Young Country 100 FM"
When it rebranded at 98.1, CC called it "The Bull: Better Country", a brand I believe I Heart uses nationally today.
