FM Frequency of the Week - 102.5 MHz

What do you get on 102.5 FM? Here in Vermilion, OH, I have heard a number of different stations including:

WZOO/Ashtabula, OH (most common with oldies/classic hits)
WIOG/Saginaw, MI (Top-40)
WBZV/Hudson, MI (Classic Rock)
WDVE/Pittsburgh, PA (Rock)
WTSS/Buffalo, NY (Hot AC)
Have also heard the 102.5 from Zanesville, OH (WHIZ) before they moved to near Columbus

Dayton, Ohio.....It was usually WMDH Newcastle, IN and sometimes WHIZ from Zanesville (now WWCD North Baltimore OH. Now there is a Radio U translator heard n parts of the metro

Charleston, SC: Local at 102.5, WXLY, very strong AC station "Y 102.5". Once in a while when XLY is off, pick up WMYI Hendersonville or WYNR in Waycross.

In Bothell/Bellevue, WA it's a local, KZOK Seattle WA (Classic Rock).

In Pacific Beach, WA it's again, KZOK (100+ miles away).

In Wapato, WA once again KZOK, but it's only in from time to time, usually on aircraft scatter over the Cascades.

In Portland, OR it's a semi-local CSN translator, K273AJ Elwood, OR (NE of Mollala).

Northern VA, semilocal WUSQ Winchester, VA with a country format when I null out the IBOC from WMMJ 102.3 DC. In the warmer months I occasionally hear WOLC Princess Anne, MD from the other side of the Chesapeake Bay with Christian music programming. Sometimes I could get WERX from Columbia, NC near the Outer Banks.

In Bellingham, WA, it's mostly splatter from KMRE-LP 102.3 Bellingham and CFRO 102.7 Vancouver. When KZOK was on Cougar Mountain, they had a pretty good signal on the hilltops, but like every other Seattle/Tacoma station that moved to West Tiger in the '90s, their signal has all but disappeared here.

CFRO is set to swap frequencies with CKPK 100.5 Vancouver sometime this year. CFRO is technically licensed for 100,000 watts on 102.7. But as a tightly funded non-com, CFRO has only run 5,500 watts mono with pretty scrappy equipment on 102.7. The swap would allow CFRO to move to the 11,000 watt stereo state of the art 100.5 current facility of CKPK and CKPK to improve CFRO's 102.7 facilities to the full 100,000 watts and broaden it's coverage. It's viewed as a win-win for both stations.

When CKPK goes 100,000 watts on 102.7, the effect on KZOK's signal will be noticeable as far south as Everett......

WPZR 102.7 IBOC blocks what was once relatively easy reception of Cumulus' new property, grandfathered 86000 watt WIOG on 102.5, and just about everything else on the channel. WPZR also blocks WWWW on 102.9.

For me near Watertown, NY its usually WUMX 102.5 from Utica, NY or during tropo CBOX from Ottawa takes over with Espace Musique.

Here in Rochester NY, superpower (105 kW) class B WTSS Buffalo owns the channel - at least when the IBOC is off at local WLGZ-FM 102.7. On very rare occasions when WTSS is off or the trop is up, I've heard Ottawa.

From Coldwater, MI-

WBZV- Hudson, MI- Classic Rock/Buzz 102.5- Semi-local
WIOG- Bay City, MI- CHR
WMDH- New Castle, IN- Country

And coming soon...
W273AR- Kalamazoo, MI- Format yet to be determined, but it will be 250 watts from a TALL tower, so i'll probably hear it.

Tropo
WNWC- Madison, WI- Cont. Christian
WTSS- Buffalo, NY- Hot AC/Star 102.5
WZOO- Edgewood, OH- Oldies
WCMM- Gulliver, MI- Country
WDVE- Pittsburgh, PA- Rock
WWCD- Baltimore, OH- Alternative- CD102.5
KEZK- Saint Louis, MO- AC
KSTZ- Des Moines, IA- AC
KIXQ- Joplin, MO- Country/Kix Country
W273BM- Benton Harbor, MI- Cont. Christian/WFRN-104.7

In Clovis/Fresno 102.5 is pretty much dominated by KHGE 102.7 The Wolf (Country), 6 miles away with 50K ERP, I have occationally picked up KDON 102.5, Top 40 R&B, from Salinas CA. 101 miles away.

WUMX Utica is usually easy to get here in Western VT.
Aimed south, WBAZ will fade in from Long Island.
Boston's WKLB (Waltham) can be heard frequently.
I have heard on occasion Pittsburg (WDVE)
Ottawa is not hard to get here either most of the time.
Beyond that, Camden Maine can be heard now & then as well as Buffalo at times.

73's
Jim
