FM Frequency of the Week: 102.7

Wilmington Delaware

Usually just splatter from next weeks' frequency 102.9 WMGK Philadelphia. However 2 stations are nearby and make occasional appearances -

WLRB Ocean City NJ with Christian Contemporary Music.

WQSR Baltimore MD with Adult Hits. It can be heard regularly in Southern New Castle County and Northern Kent County DE.

Mankato, MN
K274AL translator of KXAC St James
Country music
(This was formerly the FM translator of KTOE 1420 news and local sports. They moved to 98.7)

Central Kentucky:
WOKH Springfield/Bardstown. "102.7 The Rocket",
mainly CHR but does oldies on Saturday.
Once in a while WEBN Cincinnati will overpower WOKH.
Retro/other: Growing up in Lexington, WEBN was easily receivable with a T bar FM antenna in the attic, at my south Lexington home. Liked it better than WKQQ...

Denver, CO -
K274DF, translator for 910 KPOF. POF = "Pillar of Fire", the Christian denomination that has owned KPOF since 1928. Believe it or not, Pillar is not the original owner of KPOF, which surprised me when I looked up the FCC history card. Still, it's a pretty impressive record of longevity. K274DF is based at the KPOF transmitter site in Westminster, but puts a fairly good signal into central Denver. Pillar acquired two additional FM stations earlier this year, but has retained its menu of programming on KPOF/K274DF, which consists mostly of soft-sell fundamentalist preaching and what could be considered the Christian equivalent of soft adult contemporary. The FM translator has extremely light audio processing.

North Iowa:
Good signal from KYTC/Northwood, an Alpha station that was one of many to switch over to Westwood One programming full-time after staffing cuts back in May.

Central Kansas:
A blank frequency locally, though I did receive KFRX/Lincoln once before they moved to 106.3 years ago.

Hartland, VT:

WEQX Manchester, alternative rock, fringe reception but steady signal.

Meriden, CT:

Nothing but splatter from classic rock WDRC-FM Hartford.

Clifton, New Jersey

I get WNEW-FM New York, NY. Currently, NEW 102.7 is on analog and HD1, Channel Q on HD2, and Talkline Network on HD3.

In Myrtle Beach, 1O2.7 is always "GNI" from Wilmington NC. Strong as a local in the North Strand. WGNI is one of a couple 100,000 watt blowtorches in the area; 91.3 WHQR is another (NC public radio which features around a two second delay from 90.1 SC public radio when airing the same NPR programming).

Nothing else gets in under GNI.

Just for fun, since tonight I’m in Leiden, South Holland, the Netherlands: 102.7 MHz is one of the national commercial networks,
Radio 538, from its Rotterdam transmitter. Radio 538 is basically a CHR station.

Tonight (Saturday night), 538 is doing dance mixes with Armin van Buuren, probably the Netherlands’ most famous EDM DJ;
