FM Frequency of the Week: 103.9

Wilmington DE

Fair signal from WPHI Philadelphia simulcasting KYW 1060 with an All News Format from Audacy. There is heavy splatter from W281CM in Swedesboro NJ on 104.1 making 1060 the easy choice for Philly News rather than 103.9. In Summer WRDE in Berlin MD overrides WPHI many evenings with Country Music.

East Tennessee: (Knoxville/Sevierville). LPFMs WOZO and WOZW (there used to be a 3rd), which somehow legally 2 different entities sharing time but for all practical purposes is just one station. Mix of unknown music and progressive talk/issues.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio area is WZDA, Beavercreek, OH, which over the decades slowly marched in from Xenia as the former WHBM. It became top 40 WDJX in the late 70s, then a variety of formats, (A/C, Oldies and a long stint as an alternative.). Now Country.

Denver, CO - K280GB, rebroadcasting EMF's Air1 from KLDV-HD2. The translator is based on Lookout Mountain.

Springfield, MA

WMRQ left sideband

Hartland, VT:

W280CS Hanover, NH, translator of WNCH Norwich, VT (88.1), classical music.

Meriden, CT:

Nothing but WMRQ splatter.

Central Kansas:
I have received KHYM/Copeland before during tropo, and possibly KNZA/Hiawatha (though the latter hasn’t been that common). KRFS/Superior is fairly close, and I may have received it at my location, though I don’t exactly remember.

North Iowa:
Bleedover from adjacent channel KLKK/Clear Lake, though KUOO/Spirit Lake can come in depending on antenna positioning.

I'm partial to this one, because it's one of my client stations. WDKX Rochester, #1 in the market even though it's just a little 800-watt class A signal from the tallest building downtown. And now in HD after we put in a new GatesAir transmitter this past year.

Here in Central and Eastern Maine it's WVOM Howland/Bangor "The Voice of Maine" News/Talk. also re-broadcast on WVQM 101.3 Augusta.

Clifton, New Jersey

I get WVBN "VCY America" Bronxville, NY which airs a Christian Talk and Teaching format. I have received WRCN-FM "LI News Radio" Riverhead, NY twice. Once when WVBN (then WNBM) was off the air and another time it was received over WVBN during tropo.

Retro: For many years, 103.9 was located in White Plains, NY before moving to Bronxville, NY in 2014. Call letter history includes WFAS-FM (1946-1971, 1982-2014, 2022-2023), WWYD (1971-1982), WNBM (2014-2022) and WVBN (2023-present).
