FM Frequency of the Week: 104.7

East Tennessee: Depends where you are, in Knoxville generally only iBoc hash from 104.5 WKHT, in Sevierville and Gatlinburg it's WLNQ, White Pine TN. Clingman's Dome brought in The Fish from Atlanta.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio is local WTUE. Once in Springfield, OH I managed to get iHeart sister WIOT, Toledo, carrying Bob and Tom a few seconds after WTUE.
Since the mid-70s, both WTUE and WIOT have been AOR, then Classic Rock no matter the ownerships. The WTUE/WIOT line is Lima or Marion, Ohio.

Lafayette IN area was either WFRN, Elkhart, WCFL, Morris, IL or WTUE.

Mankato, MN

Bleedover from KJLY 104.5

Once you get out of town you may get KCLD St Cloud (one of only 3 Class C stations outside of the Twin Cities...the others being WWJO 98.1 St Cloud and KNXR 97.5 Rochester)

Central Kansas:
Most of the time, it’s a fair to weak KXBZ/Manhattan, though depending on antenna positioning, KXNC/Ness City is an occasional visitor.

North Iowa:
A weak KVIK/Decorah. Have yet to pick up KCLD/St. Cloud, as their stick sits a bit too far to normally receive.

Northeast New Jersey: W284BW (Freedom FM) NYC and a little bit of WSPK Poughkeepsie, NY, when driving around.

Tropo brings in WELJ Montauk, NY, WQHQ Ocean City, MD, and WOCN Orleans, MA. A very good DX channel

In Pickerington, Ohio, 104.7 is a lot of nothing thanks to the digital hash from neighboring WCVO on 104.9. Over my radio lifetime, it's meant rock to me in several locations.
Get 10 miles to my east and "The Big Lick" rocker from Newark starts to break through. That's W284CH, simulcasting WCLT-HD2 from 100.3.
Before WCVO fired up HD, WTUE could be heard in parts of western and southwestern Franklin County. If the conditions were right, I could grab it out here. But WCVO's hash has cut WTUE's reach toward Columbus by somewhere between 15 and 20 miles. By London, it's very listenable.
WIOT is the heritage rocker in my college town of Toledo with a giant signal in most every direction. I used to be able to pick up WIOT at Marion on 23 heading north and listen all the way back to Toledo, but a few years ago WZMO, Marion Community Radio, fired up with 100 watts. Obviously it's not taking away any real listenership from WIOT, but it means IOT doesn't break through until close to Upper Sandusky now.

Crystal Lake, Illinois....

104,7 is a what's left of WCFL-FM from Morris, IL. About 65 miles south of me.

The heritage WCFL call letters landed on the Morris 104,7 in the 1990s with an attempt to recreate the sound and format of the legendary top 40 powerhouse in its best days. It sounded pretty good for a short time, and was fun while it lasted, but in fairly short order it went bankrupt and also, IIRC, ran afoul of the FCC for one violation or another. It's now a religious station that's opted to keep the heritage call letters. Current ownership has also increased power to 50kw from the 20-ish kw it had during its days as a classic top 40 station.
