FM Frequency of the Week: 106.9

Here in Carmichael, CA I get KFRC in the Summertimes

Most of the time it will be KRNO from Reno, NV

DX/Retro: When I lived in Pacifica in the 80's it was KEAR, I never really listened
 
Here in Cheyenne, WY:

When I travel to Scottsbluff, NE, it is home to 106.9 The Trail. I wish I could get that station here by tropo. When I went to Sheridan, they also had a 106.9 country station. What are the odds?
 
East Tennessee: The. giant signal of the Billy Graham organization, WMIT, Black Mountain TN (which also has a simulcast locally on 106.7). If you can get your way to a spot with terrain shielding to block WMIT, there's WKXD, Monterrey (Crossville), TN.) WMIT is a frequent visitor to an Edinburgh, IN Global Tuners rig.

Retro/other: Western Ohio: Back in the day, it was 2 Marions, WMRI in Marion, Indiana; and WMRN, Marion, Ohio, both Beautiful Music through the early 90s. Bowman, who owned WMRI, established a beautiful music network in a few Indiana markets, which morphed into Smooth Jazz. WMRI is the present day WXXC with an A/C format. WMRN in Marion, Ohio became a country station before moving into the Columbus market and bouncing down to 106.7
 
Picayune, Mississippi:

W295DG, translator of 1320 WRJW "The Pic of Picayune" which has a country format along with local news and sports. Before the translator signed on in May 2021, KBRS Belle Rose, LA (gospel) and WRBE Lucedale, MS (country) were common along with KGLK Conroe, TX "The Eagle, Houston's Only Classic Rock"

Do you mean Black Mountain, NC?
 
South side of Chatham, IL (about 12 miles southwest of downtown Springfield and the IL State Capitol): Mix of W295BQ Litchfield, IL (simulcasting WSMI 1540's mostly classic country format) with a surprisingly robust signal for a translator about 40 miles away. Also WSWT Peoria.
 
In Pickerington, Ohio, nothing between hip-hop WZCB on 106.7 and gospel WJYD on 107.1 from Circleville, some 20 miles south of me.
As noted above, the closest 106.9 used to be WMRN before it moved down here and changed frequencies. I caught it a few times from the 15th floor of my south-facing dorm at the University of Toledo, about 75-80 miles line of sight north of Marion.
When I lived in Houston, 106.9 was 91,600-watt blaster KHPT as "106.9 The Point" with an 80s format. Since 2011, it's been classic rock simulcasting with 107.5 FM. Still a killer signal, I'm sure. Read some DX reports several years ago that it's been heard as far north as Dallas, but that's quite a haul and I can't corroborate that myself.
 
Ellensburg WA usually brings a mix of K295BT Wapato (KTCR-980, Oldies) and K295AU Moses Lake (KPLW-89.9, Positive Life Radio) none of which are strong in any case. Occasionally, KRWM Seattle makes it with their Adult Contemporary format, but only on aircraft/tropo scatter; and K295AV Kennewick (Grupera) has been heard on top of nearby 6,300+ foot Lion Rock.

Further east on my frequent travels to Quincy for my teaching practicum, KMOK Lewiston ID (Country) and K295AU mix going down from Ryegrass Summit on I-90. Then K295AU dominates from the Gorge Amphitheatre exit up to George and north to Quincy.

Yes, E-skip has been heard on this channel. KBGL Larned KS (Top 40) and KOPW Plattsmouth NE (Rhythmic), both logged last year.

Let me guess- Parks Tower? Small world!

Here in suburban Cleveland, 106.9 is the FM translator for 1100 WTAM- a mix of Conservative Talk with Cavs basketball and Guardians baseball for good measure.

That is correct! Lived there in 1996-97. North-facing room the first half of the year, then a south-facing room the second half..
Let's just say reception was quite different from one side of the floor to the other!
 
Northeast NJ: During tropo. An assumption between WCCC out of Hartford, CT and WKVP Camden, NJ. Both airing K Love.
 
Orange County, TX - KHPT Conroe, TX, 24/7 which simulcasts KGLK 107.5 Lake Jackson, TX which fights it out with KJMH, Lake Arthur, LA when skip comes in.
 
I used to get slight interference on 106.9 in the mornings when I lived in League City. It was never enough to take the signal out, but it was noticeable. Got the same phenomenon on 89.7 KACC out of Alvin, albeit much closer to their tower. Figured it was something atmospheric for that time of day because I don't remember it happening much or at all at other times.

That is an interesting phenomenon. When I'm near some of my local FM broadcast towers, other stations will start popping up on frequencies that they are not supposed to. Example: When I'm close to the KFCY tower (east side of town), KOLT (west side, 100.7) will pop up on 90.7 for a while, along with a classical station. Downtown is an absolute mess of stations, with the local Air1 (104.1) on 98.1, and KRAE (101.1) on 95.9 and 103.7. My local translator, K258DN, as well as some other stations like KLWV, gets knocked out entirely by the mess.
 
The same thing happens in metro Houston close to the major TV/radio tower farm in Missouri City. A lot of 100K FM stations come from there, so the rimshots, which themselves usually boasted quite strong signals, were and are clobbered anywhere within a few miles.
I experienced that many times on my commute from League City to the west side of Houston. I lived between 15 and 20 miles from those towers, but on a clear night I could see the lights in the distance from outside my neighborhood.

What Radio are you using?

I live like Half a Mile from 2 transmitters

There's like FM overload on emply channels on All my small radios

This has all been in my vehicular radios, a 2005 Jeep Liberty and 2015 Dodge Ram. I don't quite get overload, but a lot of channel jumping
