FM Frequency of the Week - 107.1 MHz

What can you get on 107.1 FM? Here in Vermilion, OH, 107.1 is normally nothing but IBOC noise from local WNWV 107.3, which by the way is still playing Christmas music in a smooth jazz style which they have been doing since Dec. 19 when they ended the AAA format which they had for 2 years and is going back to smooth ac, very similar to what they had before flipping to AAA in Dec. 2009. With tropo, I have heard WQKL/Ann Arbor, MI and WSAQ/Port Huron, MI on 107.1 cutting through the hash of WNWV.

Schenectady, NY: a fair signal from semilocal WFFG-FM Corinth pretty much always... don't think I've ever gotten anything else on 107.1

Here in Dover NH I get a very strong WERZ on 107.1, with their transmitter in nearby Stratham NH, about 15 mi away, with 5.2 kW. The format is Hot AC, one of the Clear Channel clones.

Here in Warminster PA, 107.1 is usually splatter from local 106.9 WKDN from Camden(Family
Radio, soon to become Merlin Media-owned all-news), sometimes WRNJ from Belvidere NJ comes in on tropo.

Kind of a fun one in Rochester NY - it used to be dominated by CILQ "Q107" Toronto, but Canada crammed another 107.1 in, CJTN Quinte West (Trenton), Ontario, just 120 miles or so east of Toronto along the Lake Ontario shore. Now I can hear both Canadian 107.1s, depending on which way my antenna is pointing.

Here in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where I'm visiting the in-laws, it's WDOH Delphos OH, 50 miles or so east of here near Lima.

107.1 MHz in Durham, North Carolina, is local WFXC, the "107" half of urban AC "Foxy 107/104". I've also logged Briarcliffe Acres, SC station WQSD once.

The closest 107.1 to me is a pirate.... :(

WCKT Cat Country (Lehigh Acres, FL) and WAOA "A1A" (Melbourne, FL) come in as well.

cd

Manassas, VA,

It's usually the IBLOCK from DC's WRQX 107.3, and recently during a temp inversion over the Chesapeake Bay, I heard WTDK "107.1 The Duck" Federalsburg, MD (near the DE border) over the sideband hash.

I get WZVN Lowell, IN 24/7. This is a Class A station in the Chicago market, & only heard in Lake, Porter, Jasper, & Newton Counties with little trouble, & eastern portion of southern Cook County & far easter Will County on the Illinois side. It barely can be heard in LaPorte County, IN, in order to protect WIRX St Joseph, MI, who is also on 107.1. I also noticed that since WSPY-FM Plano, IL upgraded their power, WZVN has a CP to more than double their power, but moves their antenna from their tower in Lake Dalecarlia (unincorporated Lake County, IN) to WXRD's tower SE of their current location.

From Coldwater, MI-

One of my best open frequencies!
WQKL- Ann Arbor, MI- Adult Alternative- 107 one
WIRX- Saint Joseph, MI- Rock
WDOH- Delphos, OH- AC- Lite Rock 107.1
WEDJ- Danville, IN- Spanish
WZVN- Lowell, IN- Hot AC- Z 107
WSAQ- Port Huron, MI- Country- Q107
WTLZ- Saginaw, MI- Urban AC- Kiss FM

Tropo-

CILQ- Toronto, ON- Classic Rock- Q107
WKFS- Milford, OH- CHR- Kiss FM
WNKK- Circleville, OH- Country- Wink
WSPY- Plano, IL- AC- Spy
WUHU- Smith's Grove, KY- CHR- WUHU (pronounced woo-hoo) 107

Here in High Bridge NJ the dominant is WWZY Belidere NJ, the Bone, but their signal is not all the impressive, I can drive down my street and hear WWYY Long Branch NJ, the Breeze, start to cut in on them. Sometimes during tropo Sharptown MD will come in.

Here in Hobbs, New Mexico, it's local 107.1 KTUM Tatum, with a transmitter about 33 miles away, west of the city. Haven't tried it out in Midland or Lubbock.

BTW: First post!

In Bothell/Bellevue, WA, 107.1 is IBOC from KRWM 106.9 (Soft Rock).

In Yakima, WA, 107.1 is completely obliterated by KFFM 107.3 splatter.

In Pacific Beach, WA, 107.1 was a blank frequency, even when some slight DX was in.

In Portland, WA, 107.1 is a different story. I get a mix of K296FT West Haven, OR (near Portland, repeats KMHD-HD2 which has alternative rock) and KRQT Castle Rock, WA (Rocket 107, classic rock).

Sorry I meant Portland, OR. W7PAT, I'm surprised you don't get KRQT 107.1 Castle Rock. I got it while in Portland in September (stayed near PDX Airport, but didn't catch a plane at all).

Day/night: 296FT. Used to hear KRQT on there quite regularly before the translator started jamming it a few years back.

[size=8pt]Yeah, and you might want to be careful mixing up your states there, crainbebo! Especially with Vancouverites on the board.....

That's an easy one....

107.1 is where I have my Whole House FM transmitter next to my desktop PC. Signal is fabulous throughout my home and yard....but it barely makes it to the end of the block! ;D A few neighbors listen in. Most of this month was Christmas music.

Now I'm back to "normal", which is oldies.....Sometimes from my music collection and classic jingles...(mostly PAMS...WLS, WABC, CHUM, WTIX, and KFWB). Sometimes streams.....usually Rich Bro, Radio Bop, or Martini in the Morning. Occasionally CKOC, Hy Lit, WDJO, or KRTH HD-2. Generally something different every day.

When I turn off the little jukebox....it's a weak signal on 107.1 from WSPY in Plano, IL.

I used to get it until the translator came on the air. I can understand east Portland as it is further from the towers. You don't have to go too far south to get K-Love out of Sweet Home as well.
