FM Frequency of the Week: 107.3

East Tennessee: One of the few translators operating with its intended purpose, W29AX, relaying WJXB, Knoxville, TN. It serves as a fill-in translator for Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. This translator formerly relayed WIJY, Harriman TN. When the translator has been off the air, WCTT-FM, Corbin KY is an easy catch.

Retro/other: Dayton, OH. It's Centerville, Ohio's high school station WCWT. heard in some parts of the metro. Otherwise, often WRZQ, Greensburg, IN and very occasionally WRSW, Warsaw IN. I've gotten WCTT a couple of times, usually during heat advisories. In my home county, WBEA (WNWV and all its other incarnations), Elyria, OH was frequently in.). I'd also DXed what was WPLB, Greeneville MI, as I did in Lafayette, IN.

Far northwest Chicago suburbs, 107.5 is a weak WSJY from Fort Atkinson, WI, 26kw at 670 feet from about 60 miles northwest of me. Just enough left to break through whatever remains of WGCI splatter.

In Cheyenne, WY:
A weak, but sometimes listenable K297AK Fort Collins (51.1 miles at 250 watts). They are a 90's formatted station, which suprises me.

Eventually, KHYY Scottsbluff will move from 106.9 to 107.3, which would allow me to Dx it from Cheyenne for the first time, and it should make for some interesting overlap with K297AK.

I have no tropo or E-skip to report on 107.3 that's outside the normal enhancement from Fort Collins.

Travel: When I visited Casper, WY, it was K297AV, with a strong signal (suprising for 250 watts east of town, but then again, I was at the mall, so east of downtown). K297AV relays 1580 KKTS. It just blows my mind that there's actually a Hot AC on AM in, of all places, Wyoming.

Kissimmee FL
W297BB translator for WDBO 580. Medium to weak

Frequently WXGL from St. Petersburg will come in underneath. Before the translator WXGL was a weak but consistent signal in this area.

From Pickerington, Ohio, nothing but slop from neighboring locals on 107.1 and 107.5. About 15 miles east, oldies WYBZ from Zanesville starts to break through.

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs):
Usually the FM translator of either 1490 WBCB or the Philly translator of WRDV 89.3 in Warminster(where else?). There's also WPUR from AC(Cat Country 107.3) and WRQX from DC(K-Love-Christian music). AC and DC, interesting! Mainly, though, it's splatter from semi-local 107.5 WBYN from Boyertown PA(Berks County), a religious station.

Orange County, TX-Normally it's KJAS, Jasper, TX. This morning, 4:34 AM, KLFX Nolanville, TX all alone with rock format.

The mighty KFFM Yakima (Top 40) hails this frequency. 100,000 watts from over 3,200 feet elevation, east of Terrace Heights. Extraordinary coverage, even making it into 'dead zones' like Cle Elum where most Yakima FMs are well in the noise. Fair signal in north Wenatchee. Full RDS from George to Quincy on Hwy 281. Made it to Waterville and Coulee City along Hwy 2. Farthest heard? Just south of Moscow ID on US-95 in April, maybe 160 miles east.

Nothing else logged for that exact reason. However, Tri-Cities has a translator on 107.3 (K297BE) called 'The Beat,' with Classic Hip Hop.

South Mississippi:

weak signal on Gospel 107 WFCG Tylertown, MS
Talk 107.3 WBRP Baker, LA
107.3 The Beat WRGV Pensacola, FL

Central Kansas:
KTHR/Wichita. Formerly a longtime Top 40/CHR as KKRD, it flipped to classic rock in ‘04 as ‘The Road’ (hence the call letters), rebranded to ‘The Brew’ in ‘09, then flipped to alternative in ‘14.

North Iowa:
KIOW/Forest City

In Cullowhee, NC, "107.3 JAMZ, WJMZ" out of Anderson, SC, an R&B station comes in decently. However, get up near Cherokee, NC it becomes harder to receive 107.3 JAMZ, due to the translator W297AX also @107.3 out of Knoxville, TN starting to interfere.
